Who are the active Vandy fans on this board?

I'm one of them even though I am not welcomed it seems

Nah, you're just EVERYWHERE. And only care about non-revenue sports most of the time. Athanatos doesn't seem to be around much anymore. He shows up on AoG a bit.

Uh...he was probably in his late 40s or early 50s with a fair bit of a gut. Short hair...maybe balding? I ended up walking out of the entrance they use for the athlete's families and stuff, I think. It was that gate just to the left of the main baseball gate where the fencing changes directions from following the outline of the football stadium to the outline of The Hawk.

Wait, you follow AoG? Or are you a poster on there? Bunch of undercover agents it seems...

It is not that you are not welcomed, just this is a respite in a sea of crap the Rant has become. Folk that post on here have good info if you ask and listen to what they have to say.
I think where you went astray was your post on the Rant thread yesterday where you sort of backtracked support of the Dores. Since this is such a small group we like to know we have each others back 24 / 7 / 365.

I was born and raised in Lafayette, LA my parents are alum of Vanderbilt and we've always been big fans. I went to LSU so I cheer on both teams, but I'm a bigger fan of Vandy. I'm a big bball fan and I hate Kentucky basketball

Out of curiosity, when did your parents graduate? Some of us have been around for quite a while (I graduated early 80's).

Both graduated in 1980. How old are you? (if you don't mind me asking)

I don't mind you asking. Let's just say I probably have more in common with your folks (I'm in my mid-50s).

It is not that I just care about non revenue, it is that non revenue needs love too and unless someone brings it up it stays out of folks collective minds. If other, younger folks would take up the charge it would get spread around more and it would unlock more minds to full fandom and just not a single sport. With family involved in both revenue and non revenue sports I can see both sides and see how each side benefits the other.
It does seem like I have been posting a lot lately and I probably need to cut back but I do try and throw up one Vandy related post a week just to keep the Vanderbilt name out there. Sometimes it is sports, sometimes it is history, and sometimes it is academics but I try to at least get folks to respond to it.
I did a Vandy volleyball thread last week that got more responses than the Vandy vs AP game thread. What do you make of that? More importantly TAMU should have blown them out but the Dores hung tough and with just 1 goal scored it really was anybody's game. Pretty exciting stuff and more fun to watch than getting blown out in a sport or blowing someone else out in a sport.

Not the guy I am thinking about, he is old but may be slightly above the age of your guy. Thin with hair and slightly hippie like in spirit even if he does not look like a hippie on the outside. He lets me park in a hidey hole space when I am there for a game as most times I forget the damn hang tag.

I lurk between 1/2 dozen to dozen sites but only really post on tRant. I had lurked TD for ages but actually got this account to lobby Chicken for a Vandy Board as in the early days he was not going to have one as he thought nobody would post. Sometimes you have to just ask over and over again and folks say yes. I am grateful Chicken added the board in his infinite wisdom and just glad it all seems to have worked out.
UK and VU had other home boards but it has been tough getting new voices without getting the idiots of the primary fan boards. At least with this board I would rather have quality over quantity while at least getting to critical mass of 6 - 12 solid posters who post something daily and maybe 24 - 48 support folks who post at least a few times a week.
I am older so enjoy more discussion but that does not seem to draw the hit the trolls get so we are heading to the lowest common denominator. I like prof on the Vol Board and we have had some really good discussions about a myriad of topics. As for specific sports related discussions I try to stay out of recruiting and detailed play by play as already plenty of folks who can do that better than me. My views are more directed at the big picture issues be it from the past, present, or where the SEC is headed in the future.
I throw tons of stuff out here but am never sure how it resonates. I put out something smart or insightful and it gets 1 or 2 up votes then put out something dumb as hell and get lots of up votes.

Have you heard the term "old as dirt"?
Well I dated dirts midwife in my youth
I can not remember not being a Vandy fan and most of it goes back to a long ago, and far away SEC. Several folks not related to me are Vandy alumni so I keep up, plus as an old guy I am involved with the health care side of VU. Have Vandy alum in the family and my childhood sweetheart went to Vandy for college. I would have gone with her but they did not have my field of study in the engineering department so I went to a school that did. As I am about as dumb as a bag of hammers I am always amazed at the schools who let me in. As for the old GF, she studied engineering at Vandy but never used it. More business in what she did with her life but still has the offbeat engineering sense of humor I love to this day.
Memorial is still one of my favorite places to catch a ball game as most of the venues from the past are no longer used or have been torn down. I am okay with big venues but not of corporate seating and corporate folks sitting in the seats once reserved for real life fans of sports. 20 years go everybody around me were normal folks and we all knew each other. Now it is folks who own companies and they shmooze and talk business while ignoring the game. Their kids play games on the cell phones or text and pay not attention to the live game. They think I am crazy for yelling and screaming at games and I think they are crazy for not doing so. Odd days indeed for college sports.

Yes it was, I hate Apple for putting words in my mouth most of the time but that screw up was all mine!
Since I watch both and both are in season I was just being the village idiot on that one.
Dores really do need volleyball and I lobby every time I am hanging with the NCC folks.

Your comment on non-revenue sports is so true. My sister runs cross country and track at LSU and my parents had to raise a lot of the money back in high school.

The extra length of the thread probably has more to do with being the only live SEC game on at the time. Also, I was posting in that thread a fair bit. I don't participate in game threads since I am at the Vandy football home games. However, I'll be a true nuisance if the game this week is anywhere close.
