Many people are using Franklin as the baseline for evaluating how Mason is doing so far. I think it may be instructive to provide another perspective. In his first two seasons Coach Mason has won as many games (both in total and in the SEC) as Coach Bobby Johnson did in his first three seasons. As a reminder, CBJ had the following results:

Year Record SEC SEC Rank
2002 2–10 0–8 6th in the East
2003 2–10 1–7 T–5th in the East
2004 2–9 1–7 T–5th in the East
2005 5–6 3–5 5th in the East
2006 4–8 1–7 6th in the East
2007 5–7 2–6 6th in the East
2008 7–6 4–4 T–3rd in the East
2009 2–10 0–8 6th in the East

Note that CBJ only had 2 wins in each of his first three seasons and a total of 2 SEC wins. While I am not happy with where we ended up, I see no reason to pull the plug on Mason. Let's let him grow into the job. CBJ didn't do as well and he already had 8 years of head coach experience.

Interesting that Johnson also finished higher in the SEC than Franklin ever did.

No 'Dawg in this fight, but, I think he's doing fine.

A dynamic QB, or 3 from having a decent team.

Man 09 was such a disappointing season even though you could see it coming from a mile away.
