With a new coach, can we enjoy ourselves again?

It seems like in the last 6-7 years of Richt's tenure we were constantly tempering ourselves, even after big wins because the monkey of "can't win the big one" or "Richt will blow it" hung over everything. We were so used to being a top 10-15 team that we became frustrated with everything.

It seems like in the early Mark Richt years we really celebrated and appreciated big wins and wins in general. Do you think we'll get that feeling back with the first years of a new coach, or will expectations continue to hold down our joy?

I do but not before some ups and downs.

Not worried about the d but can see us struggling on o with new system, possibly freshman qb, etc.

Think we will be better in the end

For me only if we win the Conference title back to back. It got so bad under Richt that even he cried after a big win.....AT HOME! We're supposed to be expected to win big games. So if demand Dawgs do big things the first 2 years under new Leadership I will be able to get back to enjoying seeing the Dawgs play like I was in the 80's

Takes a year or 2 to wash the roster of the previous staff.

I just watched the Bulldog Preview on the SEC network. One thing that got me pumped was watching Kirby mic'd up during practice. There's an energy there that, imo, has been missing for along time.

I dont have unreal expectations this year for the obvious reasons but Im ready to get back to beating top ten teams without our coach crying on national tv and in the locker room.

Dont get me wrong, that was a great game. I still watch the highlights every now and then. But you would have thought Richt just won the NC.

Hell, it even made Loren write a letter to Larry.

I wept after we beat Southern. At home. In overtime.

That's the only time you can even enjoy a win?

Your title of the thread was "with a new coach, can we enjoy ourselves again." So you can only enjoy a win with a new coach, yet calling out someone for when they would enjoy a win? This whole fricking thread is stupid. Any of you that don't enjoy every win are retarded. Richt braught us consist wins every year and it was awesome...and he didn't lose the big ones over his career as much as you all think.

However, he's gone and we are on to a new era. I'm excited for Kirby just as much as I would be for any coach of the Dawgs starting a new season with so much talent.

frick this thread, frick the OP, and GO DAWGS!

My point was not that I only enjoy wins with a new coach, my point was I feel like Richt had raised expectations to a point that wins were no longer appreciated like they were when he first got to Athens. I don't think this is an uncommon opinion.

My question is when does the optimism return. Does hitting the reset button mean that we don't have to qualify everything with "but we can't win a natty so it's meaningless"? Apparently people feel like that's not the case, and I wish it could be.

I agree. But losing games we should have won - Boise State, Florida many years, UT, Oklahoma State - and the 2 embarrassing losses to Bama were what ultimately soured me on Richt.

I enjoy most games regardless; the blowout losses withstanding. Losing big games during the Richt era didn't really bother me as much as not being competitive/ready to play in such games. Signature Loses A distinguishing characteristic of the best teams is competitiveness even in rare losses.

I would like to get back there. I remember in the 80's when we expected to win every game, but more than that, most of the games had no worry at all. AT ALL.

We never had the "Boy Vandy is always tough" thoughts. Or the "I hope we don't do stupid things and loss to a less talented UF team" Or "this is a DII school, hope they don't hang with us". 8 to 9 games a year were just a party. The rest were expected wins, but real games.

When we played UK or Vandy caliber teams, it was fun and at half-time it was settled. Stay and watch or leave and resume drinking. Those were the days!

I would love to get back there.

I want to get to a point that when we play Bama, we're saying "HERE WE GO! " instead of "oh shite, here we go again. "

To the naysayers - CMRPTSD is a very real thing. Understand that.

I'm forcing myself to temper my expectations until I see us beat a better team. And to be honest, I don't really think I'll relax about it all until I see us beat better teams, consistently. Only then will the monkey of CMR's final five years be off our back.
