This is a screenshot of Gata's (Perry's) last Facebook post on the night he died. He went full Disney and made a bold prediction for his beloved Dawgs this season. Is it "THAT DAWG GONE YEAR"? I don't know...but wouldn't it be something?

I'd like to see the Dawgs win one for the Gata. I'm pouring out some bourbon for you today, Perry.

I'll have a shot of George Dickel at the instant toe meets leather for the opening kickoff.

The man, the myth, the Legend.

Know youre having fun on the otherside. Hope the Dawgs can make it happen for us.

I gave up Facebook about a year and a half ago.

I just logged in to see if it was the same GATA I knew...

Can't believe he's dead, we had good personal conversations about everything. From flusies to football.

What was it? How old?

Perry was fifty. His past killed him. He couldn't out run it, like so many before him. He isn't unique in that regard...

I may or may not draft a farewell well speech later in his honor. have to see how wasted I get

Ive known a lot of people "online" over the years, but not too many do I call legit friends. Perry was my friend

Absolutely, Chef. We got to know one another personally, and I was even about to start work on a hollow wood surfboard for his restaurant at his request. He was a very inviting person, and was a "shirt off his back" kind of guy. His past may have had a lot to do with that.

And let's not forget that he was one of the best trolls around. He still lives rent free inside some heads in these parts. That means he will never die...

Too true. when i was fighting a 200+ dollar a day dope habit a day yrs ago after my dad died he used to email me all the time with pep talks

I posted my address fricked up one night on ogDR wanting to fight some dickhead from statesboro and gata got a satellite image of my house he use to end his emails with "and go take down those '70s looking drapes motherfricker"

I remember all of us swapping stories one night many moons ago about some of the catastrophes we'd caused being frick ups. Wasnt it you that got drunk and arrested on your sisters wedding day or something? Or was that him. I know that bastard had a DUI record that would leave any drunkard in awe

I took a handful of blotter acid on my sister's wedding day down in St. Augustine. Didn't fight, and didn't go to jail. It was, however, the most interesting wedding that I ever attended.

I do have stories...but, unlike Gata, I have been able to outpace my past. I'm very thankful for my daughter, and the part she played in that.

I didn't know GATA personally as many of you did, however I always got a kick out of his posts and the way he got in some folks' psyche. For all the Carlsbergs I hoist tonight in Israel, and there will be many as I watch the Dawgs on the internet, they will be all for the legendary GATA.

RIP

Genuinely miss the guy. Perry was a class act human being, whatever demons he had. And the best damned troll I've ever crossed.

Hope he's having a helluva time up there.

I'll share this in brief because his mother gave permission to do so, but......without getting into all the details......he apparently relapsed into an old drug habit the night he made that Facebook post. Best the cops could tell, he got some bad stuff, which apparently has happened a lot in the area (Tampa) in recent months. As HRD said, old demons came looking for him. He gave in that night and never woke up.

A darned shame, but a reminder to us all that we have to keep up the fight every day to be the people we want to be. There's things in most people's past that can come back and take them if they let their guard down. Perry was no different; only human.

Yes, he was. His life appeared to be on a really good trajectory from what I could tell. That was in October. By December, he was gone.
