What's the luckiest play you can recall in our football history?

The '13 au luck situation in the other thread made me wonder about it from our end. And no I don't mean like "man, we sure were lucky to get 6 turnovers against uf in 12"...since we physically caused those turnovers which happens in football. UF '80 doesn't count either, that was simply an easy 20 yard pass and our guy outran theirs.

I'm talking flat out LUCKY, like auburn's was or the bluegrass miracle. Just off the top of my head I'm having trouble thinking of any that stand out, but I'm sure there have been plenty.

ETA: Just thought of one, '65 bama has gotta be up there.

Good question. I'm not remembering all the details, but didn't a Vandy player have a weird fumble to save us from losing to them in 07?

As I remember they could have scored late but their guy fumbles then we drove for the winning kick and there was the whole Richt getting angry about jumping on the logo thing.

In hindsight that kept our season together for what would be an outstanding run down the stretch to finish #2 overall.

they were driving late to take the lead and we had a LB (can't recall who) punch teh ball out and we recovered. Extremely fortunate yes, but not sure it'd be "lucky".

Nice thought for a thread....

Would you consider the Pollock in the endzone against USCe, lucky? In some ways, yes. However, again, he made the luck (If you even want to call it that)

But, as for plays no matter the team? Auburn 2013 has to take the cake.

Definitely, great call.

Obviously there was a bunch of skill, but that was definitely luck on our part.

The Tennessee RB fumble at the goal line (in overtime?) that saved a TD. Was that in 2013?

That was '13, but I'm not exactly sure if I'd call that lucky.

Very fortuitous, but not really lucky. People fumble in games all the time. Just about every game, every saturday, every week. The timing was just very fortunate in our favor.

Casey Clausen botching a handoff at the goal line before halftime in Knoxville in 2003 has to be up there. Instead of being 14-13 UT at half, Sean Joned picked it up and went 99 yards for a 20-7 lead. Game was never close after that.

Xavier Carter kneeling the kickoff at the 1 when he ran out, ran back in, then kneeled. 2001/2002 vs LSU....although we did beat their arse. That started it off well

2004, game was well out of hand (38-10) by that point. That play was more funny than lucky.

It shouldn't be this hard to come up with lucky plays that benefited us. Especially, when anyone can immediately name several unlucky plays a piece against each of our rivals.

Maybe, that's a good sign. The universe always balances out sooner or later. So, we've got some breaks coming.

Not the luckiest in our history but the Mizzou player just dropping the ball out of the end zone last year was why we won that game

Grayson Lambert is the luckiest player in cfb history in terms of defenders dropping dead easy picks lobbed directly to them. I think he averaged about 3 of those per quarter last season.

Tennessee squib kicking and giving us the ball at the 41 yard line on the last drive of the Hobnail Boot game is another one. If we start that drive at the 25, the Hobnail Boot doesn't exist.

Other choices:
-Demaryious Thomas dropping the 4th down pass vs GT in 2009
-Ronnie Brown running out of bounds and letting us save a timeout vs Auburn in 2002

That was a GREAT play by Pollack. There are two instances of luck from that game that don't involve that play. USCe dropped a wide open TD pass in the second quarter, and Andrew Pinnock dropped the option pitch on the goal line in the final seconds of the game.

Good call. Not many remember that one. Another one was Odell beckham's fumbled punt in 2013.

Maybe we need to look at things more relatively. With season-ending knee injuries being the new norm for our star offensive players, I guess we can call it "good luck" if we ever don't have one.
