It's almost as if elite high profile talent don't want to play for a guy who can't even make it 2 games in the NIT. Shocking right!?!?

In regard to what?

Gottfried went to the postseason 7 straight years (5 NCAA trips), had 1 down year, then "resigned" the following.

They then targeted a very bright anthony grant with a badass resume and he took them to the posteason 3 times in his first 4 years. Each time he went farther than Fox ever has here (NIT runner up, NCAA 2nd round, NIT quarters). They missed the posteason the next year and after another NIT bid the following year he was fired. Clearly bama doesn't reward mediocrity.

They then went after a well known former NBA player and coach. Despite only going to the NIT thus far, he somehow someway (even with no recruiting base, lackluster results, and a facility much worse than stegeman) has managed to blow our doors off in recruiting. Maybe, just maybe, recruits want to play for an energetic successful guy instead of a boring bump on a log that will bench them after their first miss.

Getting in the NCAA tournament and losing immediately is better than any NIT run, just for the record.

I get that mindset but you see what I'm saying. In order Fox's best postseasons here have been:

1)Making NCAAT and not winning a game
2)Making NIT and winning 1 game
3)Making NIT and losing 1st round

Grant's best postseasons at alabama (all within his first 4 years mind you):

1)Making NCAAT and winning 1 game
2)Making NIT and finishing runner up
3)Making NIT quarterfinals

You can get into semantics about which scenarios are better (and I agree, making the NCAAT is bigger and better) but looking at the results above it's clear that Grant did FAR better in the postseason in his first 4 years than Fox has done in 8.

I don't know if Fox is boring. Could be. I do know Auburn and Bama didn't do shite either and they are pulling more elite talent out of Ga than GA is...

AU and Bama recruiting improved because they didnt settle for mediocrity and hired a coach players want to play for.

Is that just it? Players don't want to play for Fox? Does he try to recruit all these elite guys and they say no?

For some reason you are just willfully dense about Fox or you just want to play the contrarian.

If you were a 17 year old black kid that was really good at basketball, would you be more drawn to the personality of Pearl, Johnson, or Fox? Obviously every person is different, but I mean I think it's abundantly clear that Fox is the least magnetizing of that group.

Umm, yes? What else do you think is happening? I'm sure (or at least I would damn sure hope) that Fox is doing his best to recruit these guys. But considering that they didn't sign with us, I'd say the logical conclusion is that they did in fact say no.

While this is true, I don't think that's the only thing at play. Basketball recruiting isn't that simple, and the kids often aren't making the decision. It's not just about having a dynamic personality, not that you wouldn't want that.

Didn't Fox want to hire an AAU coach and McGarity shot it down?

College basketball is littered with white dudes who manage to recruit black dudes. Hell, we had a black dude and not many black dudes wanted to play for him either. Is there something we aren't doing?

Recruiting in Georgia would be a hell of a lot easier than it was at Indiana, considering the basketball talent we have each year

You honestly the recruits want to go live in Bloomington, IN to play Big 10 basketball?

Um yeah?

Also, tom crean sucks and would provide nothing different than what fox is currently doing.

As stated in another thread, GA consistently has more than it's share of top 50 recruits and they consistently go to GT or out of state. We have yet to have a coach who consistently took our rightful share of in state, elite talent. Frankly, we haven't even been in the conversation.

Yep, this is the real issue. In football we have at least gotten the lion's share of instate recruits since the Richt era and it appears that Smart's recruiting will be an upgrade over Richt's. We need analogous coaches in every major sport. I'm looking at you, Mr. McGarity.
