Who here thinks we should jump on Crean before he's unavailable next year? He's a quality coach who can recruit and he was successful at Indiana. He'd be coming to a talent rich state and he's a name the players know. I think he's an upgrade over Fox in every way and he comes from an environment where they take Basketball seriously.

He was rumored to have talked to LSU about their job, but his asking price was too high. Hard to know how true that is obviously.

I wonder if Georgetown will back up the truck for him? He would be a nice upgrade and seems like an extremely passionate guy who, by all accounts, learned how to turn a program around and make it successful. He's said he would do things differently with his next job in regards to recruiting and staffing to be more successful in a shorter amount of time. I don't think ADGM would spend the kind of money it would take to land someone of his caliber.

He would be better than Fox. Whether or not he could sustain long term success here is another matter but maybe he could.

Recruiting in Georgia would be a hell of a lot easier than it was at Indiana, considering the basketball talent we have each year. This year alone has two kids from the state who are among the top 10 overall best players. Crean would get one of them I'm certain if he were coach.

I was about to post the same general idea... less subtle...

The cognitive dissonance here is exceptional. I'll let this thing continue to play out though.

As stated in another thread, GA consistently has more than it's share of top 50 recruits and they consistently go to GT or out of state. We have yet to have a coach who consistently took our rightful share of in state, elite talent. Frankly, we haven't even been in the conversation.

Yea, I'm not following you here. You honestly think these kids care about Indiana basketball and its tradition? You honestly the recruits want to go live in Bloomington, IN to play Big 10 basketball?

As the previous poster said, Georgia has very good basketball talent and all Crean would have to say to them is "I coached Dwayne Wade"

Just look at the talent that got away last year:

Yes, and they certainly care about the perks that come with that tradition (TV exposure, fan support, playing for a high profile coach, top-tier facilities, rubbing shoulders with HOFers, etc.). Their AAU coaches, HS coaches, and parents do as well.

Georgia has 6 McDonald's All Americans this year. None to UGA. I mean, if you think this guy can change that then bring him on....

If he gets 50% of the top 10 players in Ga each year, he can be a soccer coach and make it to the tourney.

Don't think you were replying to me specifically?

I'm not saying that GA as a state has no talent, simply that this imaginary land where Crean leaves Indiana as a barren wasteland with a dearth of talent to come to GA with all this amazing talent is flat out ridiculous... Indiana has tons of talent, coupled with the fact that Illinois is a neighboring state and produces a ton as well. The entire midwest region spits out good talent, see Ohio, Michigan, etc in the infographic.

I'm confused....had 't Indiana been to like 14/ straight dances before this guy and Tied for 3rd most championships ever? This guy seems to have been able to miss the tournament 4 times since 2008 and this year got a 3 seed in the NIT, in which Indiana was too embarrassed to play the home game..... but he's going to be a good coach at UGA?

ETA: AP just ranked UGA as the 92nd best program in CBB History.....

He's certainly not a bad coach.

He put Marquette back on the map and took them to a Final Four. He also won a couple of conference titles at Indiana and a few Sweet 16's.

I think he's a pretty good coach, overall. Just has funny expressions and kisses son on the mouth.

ETA: changed Kids to son.

They missed on back to back years with Mike Davis was there.

In Sampsons last season when he was fired half way through the season, he brought in an amazing 6 man class headlined by Eric Gordon, Jordan Crawford, Eli Holmon, and Brandon McGee. Every single one of those players left after one year. They also lost DJ White, Armon Bassett, and Mike White.

The team was gutted when Sampson was let go.

Crean came in with nothing on the roster, and brought in 7 freshmen that were all 3* or worse. The program was at an all time low.

After three years of roster building, he had the team in the Sweet Sixteen. He ended up winning two Big 10 Titles in the next 5 years, added two more Sweet Sixteen appearance, and another NCAA appearance.

He's a good coach, and we would be lucky to have him.
