the UGA way?
The Saban/ Bama blueprint is fine, and I want it. But Bama isn't piss testing their kids in the parking lot when they return from spring break. In fact, can you name a player kicked out of Bama, or UT, or AU, or LSU for smoking pot? Or not smoking pot but having "pot residue" (whatever that is)? Guys actually indicted on federal drug charges don't count btw.
Think Gurley/ Green (who are both pretty good dudes by all accounts) would've missed 8 games at any of the schools above?
And the arrests? Are we the only school in the SEC that recruits kids with suspended licenses that smoke pot? Logic would dictate that pot smokers wouldn't come to UGA...at least I would think so given our drug policy.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be Auburn. But UGA goes to far the other way. 18-22 year old alpha males do stupid shite. Have since the beginning of time. I'm convinced that playing time wouldn't be in the top 5 of really bad punishments. Stadium stairs and puke buckets would most certainly be ranked as a higher deterrent.
Guess I wouldn't be happy if I didn't have something to worry about. But this has crossed my mind a few times over the last 3-5 yrs....

I too dead inside to fret this for the first year of our coaches tenure. Unless we hire Mullen. Then I'll go ahead and melt.

Good points, but how much of "the UGA way" was CMR?

Pondered that as well....guess we're about to find out.

Meanwhile on SEC replays, you can catch the exciting Ga - Ga Southern replay.

The USCe game is the only one I've watched more than once. I turned off the Alabama and Florida games in the 4th.
I did, however, rewatch the LSU game from 2013. It was fun to watch our offense before the injuries.

Honestly I think most of our fans are going to be sorry that we fired Richt. It seems pretty clear that McGarity doesn't have an experienced HC lined up to replace him and we might well suffer for many seasons while Kirby Smart learns how to be a HC. They will likely offer Smart less money than we were paying Richt due to Kirby's lack of experience as a HC so in the end it could boil down to the same thing at always has with our administration, saving money. They probably figure that Smart will recruit well enough to win 8 games with our schedule and that will be good enough to keep the money rolling in.

If that is their thinking, they really fricked up.
To boil down your comments, you are saying firing Richt is a cost saving measure and I don't think that is true.

I don't want to speak for Gurleygirl but I think she's saying UGA won't throw crazy money at a "proven" coach. Not that firing CMR was a cost saving measure. For a 10 win coach he was already a pretty good value.

Not entirely. Our admins are of course always glad to save a couple of million bucks a year but Richt was very popular with our fans and probably most of our administrators, who saw him as a huge net positive in terms of public relations. Apparently McGarity with support from some big boosters convinced them that firing Richt was needed. But without an experienced replacement with foreseeable high ceiling, it won't be long before the natives become restless if Smart struggles for several years. In which case, McGarity will be the one sitting on a hot seat.

He isn't. At the start, he was very good, and if he'd continued on that trajectory, he might have become great, but it didn't work out that way, unfortunately. That's not to take anything away from him, either. There are only a couple of greats in any generation, and Richt wasn't one of them.

I agree but the problem is I don't think the UGA administration is willing to pay for greatness.

I agree. And $$ is only about 40% of the price UGA admin isn't willing to pay.

I really like CMR. But he's looked to lost on the sidelines for me to believe that he's a great coach, etc. 15 years is long enough for a HC to deliver. Time to change gears. Put on some Boston.
