you are spot on, that made me laugh.Lose a few next year and people will be saying exactly what you just described. the UGA basketball program has needed stability more than anything. It has been a tough process but it is finally starting to pay off.

I think we have a good chance at a tourney bid next year again. The SEC is going to be pretty dang good, our SOS and RPI numbers should be quality. Think we will be a fairly deep team next year, expect a lot from Mann, Gaines, Frazier and Maten. Think this freshmen class will be Fox's best in his time here. If they contribute early we could really be good.

How do you sell UGA basketball?

You have to be creative. How has hugh freeze brought in a top 5 football class to frickin oxford? Well, I think we know part of the reason. But aside from that, you have to sell these kids on an idea.

No, UGA basketball doesn't have the most illustrious history. BUT, as far as talent, our state and especially the Atlanta area which is only like an hour from campus, is an absolute hotbed of talent. All it would take is convincing a group of kids (who have presumably grown up playing ball together on the AAU circuits) that if we just could get a few dominos to fall, we'd be stacked. And they'd be representing the home state. LSU made it to a final 4 with a starting 5 of players who were from 30 minutes from baton rouge. Felton got 2 top 25 players in America, who happened to be HS teammates.

We aren't going to be able to put UGA Baksetball on the same pedestal as kentucky, nc, duke, whatever. That's why we have to pitch the massive amount of potential we have. Our facilities aren't really that bad and are improving. Our campus speaks for itself. UGA degree is great to fall back on after bball. Plus if you and your buddy both come here and keep playing together we could really make some noise. Sell them on being the start of something big instead of another cog in the wheel.

It won't work for most blue chippers, but it might work for a few and that's all we need.

That's tough, and I don't know how you would. I don't think Fox is the ultimate, long term answer for UGA but he is probably the right for for right now. Look at us. We were a moderately successful, somewhat average program until Billy. He had a rough year or 2 but after he took us to a few tourneys in a row, we were rolling downhill and for the most part never stopped. It's all about momentum, hell it was the same with our football program. All it will take for yall is the right coach to get 1 or 2 guys to really buy in, make a little noise in March a few consecutive years, then others will take note and say "hey, they may have something going over there"

But as for how to get that started to begin with? I have no idea.

Jarvis Hayes just did a great interview with ugasports talking about his career, wanting to get into coaching, his relationship with Fox and the trajectory of the program. He is a DGD, very connected to UGA basketball and has a real love for it. Think he will be a good coach some day.

Jarvis Hayes, Rashad Wright, Chris Daniels, Ezra Williams, Steve Thomas... that was a helluva team. Even add DA Lane in with that group for a season. I think this basketball team will be fine. Add Wright, and we'll be aight...

LOL
This is part of the problem. We don't put as much effort as the other folks. Corch Fox is good, but this is laughable...

The excitement is Mack's voice was apparent as he told us of the "unbelievable place" he found the UT campus to be. Among the highlights of his trip was spending time with head football coach (and former Columbia resident) Charlie Strong, hanging with basketball coach Shaka Smart as he threw out the first pitch at a Lady Longhorns softball game, and being able to experience campus life while school was in session.

Unbelievably premature to say Fox hasn't put enough effort into recruiting Mack.

The kid still hasn't announced Texas. If we had lost he'd come out and say it as late as it is in the recruiting process. To me, it sure seems like he is having a hard time saying no to Fox this time around or he would have already done.

effort has nothing to do with the Mack recruitment. He has been to Athens a lot, we have used all our visits on him. We have worked hard for him.

I don't get why this is laughable. If that's what it takes for us to land basketball recruits I'm all for it. We roll out the red carpet for football recruits and we need to do the same thing for basketball.

Looks like Mack ended up at Texas. Not a huge surprise but unfortunate nonetheless.

I respectfully disagree. While Mack is a tremendous talent, this leaves us with an open spot for James White. White actually is a better fit for what we need next year. With him on board our chances of making the tournament are actually better IMO. Plus we have an open scholarship for 2016.

What makes you think we don't? The difference is there aren't 5000 beat writers and another 10000 fans beating off and slobbering over it. This whole notion that we don't put in the same effort recruiting is pure hogwash! Rebuilding the basketball program has been (and always was going to be) a slow process. The recruits are starting to buy in. The current recruiting class is actually quite good, and the two guys we already have committed for 2016 (Harris & Crump) are highly sought after. Do you not think we put in the effort to land those guys?

If we could just get the fans to start buying in and stop saying crap like...

I almost feel bad for the guy. The dude can clearly coach em up, but I'm not sure he could sign his own son

I don't see many benefits for top players to come here

Where were all those complaints when we signed Turtle Jackson, E'torrion Wilridge, Derek Ogbeide, and Michael Edwards?

We missed on some talented players but I love our recruiting class. Great balance, especially if we add White. Mack is a talented player and would have been a great addition but he isn't really a position of need and we have 2 very talented perimeter scorers in the 2016 class.

I can guarantee you we worked hard for Tevin and he liked us. In the end he just really liked the idea of playing for Shaka Smart. 2015 is probably Fox's best recruiting class since he has been here, 2016 has 2 top 75 commits already and I have heard some very positive things about in state kids for 2017. Things are definitely trending up

Never thought we had a shot at Mack. If he wanted to play for Smart at VCU he dam sure wanted to play for him at Texas. Gave UGA a -23% chance at landing Mack.

Well White ended up at Tech and Mack was a top 50 national player. I would have taken Mack.

Wow! That blows. He said he wants to play for a tournament team and picks Tech? What tournament does he want to play in exactly? What a horrendous choice, and I wish him nothing but the worst! Tech is probably the worst possible team that was recruiting him. I still stand by my earlier statements though!

Oops what? I never said he would come here, just felt like he was a better fit for next year. If you disagree, then you probably don't follow the Georgia basketball team all that close. I am shocked that he picked Tech, but not shocked that he picked somewhere other than Georgia.
