I saw this over on the Cock board where, to their credit, they've been all over this.
Looks like The NCAA doesn't want to deal with this...
if only they were signing jerseys...

They hate UNC more than they do UGA.

The NCAA is in a tough situation. You can't resist the trend towards paying college athletes by saying they are paid with their education if education standards are not strictly enforced by member institutions.
I'm not a lawyer so I have no insight into how this might play out over time but I think our university has been wise to clean up it's act and work towards increasing UGA's academic standards. We might be heading to a further demarcation in college sports in which some institutions become part of a semi-pro league with lower academic standards.
If a semi-pro leagues is not part of the future of college football, and academic standards are strictly enforced across the board, then many "student" athletes will not make the cut. This could be a good thing in the long run forcing higher academic standards in public high schools and possibly some fundamental cultural improvements. Regardless, we are in desperate need of a reality check in terms of deep seated cultural issues in our nation and the overall lack of quality in our public education system.

Huh?How in the world should the NCAA by liable in this lawsuit?UNC should be held accountable but not the NCAA

I agree....I read this story as the NCAA saying they can't monitor the validity of the education being provided student athletes so they won't be taking action against UNC...almost as a jurisdictional matter. If it simply meant they shouldn't be liable in the lawsuit against UNC then that's a different issue. Maybe I read it wrong.
UNC should definitely be held accountable...including by the NCAA. This articles makes is sound like they're washing their hands of the matter...

What is different about our Harrick situation other than UNCs being university wide and happening for 20 years?
