So strange that Quayvon Hicks has been, for lack of a better word, "absent" for much of his career at UGA. I don't get why Payne was the starter to begin with...

Why was Hicks held out of Monday's practice?

I know when Payne was considered the starter I had heard it was because Hicks aint that smart and didn't know the plays that well....

Yea, that's the gist I got from 247. He picked up the playbook better than Hicks. And he did fine. I didn't notice any issues from our FB play last year.

Because he had a better grasp of the playbook and blocking assignments. Would you rather have Hicks out there even if he didn't know who to block in certain situations?

Hicks is a wrecking ball but doesn't always seem to get his assignment. From what I've seen, Payne seems to square up his man or at least get a hat on him pretty much every play. That's all Chubb and company need to bust it to the second level. Payne and Hicks both play their asses off and seem to do things the right way so I'm happy to have them.

No.

I don't "get" why a newer player (a friggin walk on) would have a better grasp of the playbook than a veteran would. It doesn't compute. People would kill to play football for UGA so to see a scholarship player kinda "flounder" throughout his football career because he can't learn a playbook there is unfathomable in my mind.

Some players just can't handle the mental aspect, the effort required to learn assignments, or both.

With regards to the link, the walk on has played professional sports for like 4 years, so I think he can handle it. Kind of tall for a FB though.

You don't play or do you just suck at it? Is it due to lack of discipline or commitment?

Sounds to me that Biggun wouldn't kill for the opportunity to play football at UGA. Sounds like he didn't even try. Seems to me that Quayvon and that walk on just wanted it more than him.

A good fullback can make a lot of difference without getting a lot of credit.
