Arrow up is in support of or arrow down against it.

Hypothetical scenario 1: Your child is injured in a hit and run accident. Not life threatening but some recovery time is required. The person responsible will never be caught/held legally responsible in any way.

Hypothetical scenario 2:
Your family is torn apart by divorce. Your SO cheated. Nothing negative happens in the other cheaters life.

I would assume you'll get a lot of thumbs up here. I'm sure at some points I would want revenge, but for me, if I'm focused on that, instead of moving forward, I know I'd be doing nothing productive.

Also, as someone whose faith is important, I know that praying for revenge is not the correct thing to do, as much as I may want that on occasion.

Well, I'm a few months removed from divorce. My ex's cheating with the other man destroyed two families. Two. So excuse if I feel that revenge is a dish best served cold. Oh, and my situation? I've left it alone but the karma train is running full force. frick her and whatever she tries to do. Revenge isn't good enough.

Not into praying to God for revenge. Ultimately judgement is in His hands, not mine.

Vengeance is mine saith the Lord;

I believe that if we take vengeance upon ourselves we not only lessen the debt the guilty party has to pay but we also take the Lords' wrath upon ourselves.

We can never dish out a more infinite punishment than God, because any punishment we could think of would still have its limitations and the Lord's is eternal.

Forgiveness ensures the punishment is completely on the guilty.

Pray for God's will to be done in all things, whether that is the offending person repenting of their sins and gaining forgiveness and mercy from God or if they don't and receive His wrath and judgement.

quote:

"Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." -Romans 12:14-21

Glad to see all these down arrows. I saw a post on my n.hood watcch page recently where a person said they would pray for karma to touch a person who had wronged their child.

I wasnt shocked by the post as much as all the supportive messages that followed it.

I was wondering if I was mussing something.

I don't see God as a micro-manager. In this regard I might not even be considered a Christian by most Christians. Stuff just happens based on circumstances. If you want revenge, then it's up to you to make it happen. But:

Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.

That very much depends on the religion of the one doing the praying.

My revenge on my cheating wife is that she married my (former) friend that she was cheating with. My revenge on him is that he is still having to work full time to pay her shopping bills and I retired at 62 and am still doing better financially than them.

I'm not a religious person in the least, in fact, I would consider myself agnostic. By definition I don't care if there is a God and I certainly don't think less of someone who does. Religion just isn't for me. To your point, I wouldn't pray for revenge, if I felt strongly enough about it, I may talk to someone I trust about the situation. My grandfather always used to say, "there is no use crying over spilled whiskey."....or was it milk? Either way, it wouldn't do any good to let these situations affect you because the only one suffering would be you.

Seeking revenge can lead to a lot of time spent not living life. I'm not a Christian at all....in fact I'm an atheist.....but Christian values are part and parcel of western society.....and looking for revenge will require resources that would be better spent appreciating the things you have in life that are important.

I do my best to enjoy everything in life....even shitty things....because life is too precious to wate a second on shite you can't control or that makes you unhappy.
