You would never see me ask this question on SECrant. Would get hammered. May get hammered anyway, but who does Gurley remind you of running style wise. I not saying he's going to be the next "insert name here", but his running style reminds me of Adrian Peterson. Tall and strong, hits the hole hard, not too elusive, but given a seam has the obvious ability to take to the house.

i'm surprised he's already starting honestly, richt usually takes a second before he goes with the young guns.
oh and anyone else seeing how Bobo's proclivity to 3rd down draws with small backs has now seemed to turn to marshall?

What I like about Gurley over Marshall and Boo is his ability to break a tackle and then hit top speed within a few steps. Marshall no doubt is a blazer but he just doesn't have the ability (yet) the get off the first defender.

i know, right?
fwiw i would like to see gurley get a lot more runs from the I, feels like more than half of his runs are on draws and off tackle plays from the gun

I'd just end it right there. In the first 2 games he's averaging 9 carries a game and 9.1 YPC...kid needs at least 15 carries a game.

Down hill, stretch zone blocking, one cut running game. This is what I wish for. We run it every now and then but not consistent enough to be effective.

i agree whole heartedly. hell, marshall got more vs mizzou as well. i saw somewhere where richt said that gurley got like 22 snaps and then marshall got 13 or something and i think he said gurley also had to deal with them wanting to pass the ball but i don't give a shite man. don't waste gurley's snaps on pass plays then. we should have a veteran like malcome for that anyway.
i feel like really it's an embarrassment of riches where they really just arbitrarily pick a RB out of the hat so it's bobo and richt kinda just say "ahh frick it, umm, tod-err, no, keith your turn. oh you went last time? shite, throw malcome in or something." get gurley in there, pound it from the I, and then maybe give Keith Marshall some runs from the gun and less from the I. i mean jesus why are we literally jamming the round peg in the square hole and vice versa? is it just me who sees this? it's just like what we did with malcome from the gun and carlton from the i. it's literally fricking my mind right now.

Why don't we run from the pistol? Very effective in that it's shotgun but you can still run traditional run plays instead of the zone read bullshite.

i've been on the pistol bandwagon since murray's freshman year but we have never added it. i really dunno why either, works for alabama and i imagine we'd use it very similarly.

I like Gurley in the I-Form. It gives him a good lead blocker and allows him to get a good downhill head of steam to square up on a linebacker or cornerback.
Also, Merritt Hall has earned the hell out of his scholarship. He didn't play alot against Mizzou bc we were in the 4 wide shotgun most of the time but he's another hard nosed FB in our offense just like in year's past.

I completely agree with you, DGD. It seems like there's no "plan" for us playing specific RB's. They're just taking turns each possession and it's making them less effective. I'd say that's why Marshall isn't having as much success. IMO, you start TG (or Boo if TG is tired) out there in the I. Pound the rock like he's Lattimore 2.0. Give him 5-6 carries if we're moving the chains. When he needs a blow, skip Boo in the rotation and throw in KM. Defense is a little tired and used to seeing a bruiser and hit em with a toss or counter, something that makes them adjust to his speed and he blows them away. There's a way we can exploit these three RB's talents but I don't think we're doing it correctly just yet.
And I love all the RED on this board.

Maybe the coaches haven't figured out how to handle a RB that isn't asking to come out after 2 plays? Seriously though, I'm wondering if the coaches aren't somewhat surprised by what they've got in the 2 freshmen? Did they honestly think they could handle the load right out of the gate? And I don't think Marshall has looked bad, it's just Gurley has been outstanding for a true freshman. From what I've seen in two games, the running game needs to begin and end with Gurley.

Speaking of Todd Gurley, I cannot be the only person that was looking for a horse collar flag on his 44 yd run in the 4th quarter. How was that missed?!
