Bauta has less arm strength than Cox?

It's possible. Mindset also has a lot to do with it.

There's clearly some talent issue with Bauta. He'd be the clear starter otherwise.

"noodle arm" Hutson Mason

I wouldn't say that. Solid arm strength for a college QB. Not Stafford or Murray, but solid.

I don't get this attempt at rationale. Doesn't this apply to Ramsey and Lambert too since they aren't the clear starter either?

I think the rationale is that all reports and Richt say he is working harder than any of the other QBs and is making fewer mistakes. If he wasn't lacking in the natural talent area....then no reason he wouldn't be starter. Seems like good rationale to me

I think what he's saying, and I agree, is that Bauta is the less talented of the group. He, in particular hasn't separated himself because of lack of natural ability. Everything else is there. The opposite seems to be true with the other two. Very gifted but haven't been consistent where Bauta has in protecting the ball, preparation, and other intangibles you look for in a qb.

Appreciate the post. I'm personally not sure what to think now. I do not like turnovers. I do know that.

I put noodle arm in quotes because it is something that I would never say about Mason.

I like Bauta as well, so lets filter out the fluff and look at the meat of CMR's comments about each QB now and then listen to what he was looking for earlier on.
VIDEO AND STORY: SCOUT REPORT

Lambert: better Throwing and knowing what to do.

Ramsey: live arm, athleticism, and increased preparation.

Bauta: Preparation Machine, Hard Worker, Cares about making his teammates better around him (Leader), Least amount of mistakes (Accurate), Good Purpose with every throw (Takes care of the ball and gets it to his target with out making a dumb decision).

Now listen to this:

YOUTUBE VIDEO: CMR on what he's looking for in a QB

- Be a Leader
- Help their teammates to be organized
- Knowledge of the offense/plays/protections
- Get the teammates in the right play/position
- Lead the workouts
- accurate/smart under pressure, be smart with the ball/don't be a hero and make stupid decisions
- progress properly
- throws the ball well and know how to throw it in certain situations

These are the facts as I hear them based on what the head man has stated and lined out for his QBs.

You be the judge. Based on this information who is it?

Yes, it sounds like Bauta. But my gut is telling me Ramsey will still be the starter.

I like Bauta better, but I can't help but feel Ramsey is the guy still.

That's pulling it all together. Nice. And CMR is honest. As you say, read between the lines.

Is there a JT5 waiting in the wings?

Honestly I feel that way sometimes too but is that because for the majority of the post season, spring, and even now the majority of the media think it's him and keep reporting that it's him despite a few saying Lambert now?

However, I did watch Dan Mario beat UGA years ago by doing nothing more than reading our linebackers and either handing off or popping short passes over their heads if they bit on the run.

And a 45 yard frozen rope post pass that split two safeties who had decent coverage. That was one of the best throws you'll ever see a college QB make.

I'm listening to Chuck and Chernoff on 680 and Chuck just had the exact opposite take from the OP. Basically Richt's comments meant that Bauta had done as well as he could possibly do and he's not the starter. Richt's comments about Ramsey meant that Ramsey was just now starting to realize his potential through better preparation. Chuck also thought that Lambert is there just to push Ramsey and keep him focused on getting better.

I'm sure he stole that take from this very board.

OK stolen is a bit harsh, but I bet it helped to frame his POV.

Still think Bauta is in the race?

Don't think most people believed he was ever in the race....people want him to be the QB because of multiple reports that he works hard, is a leader, and minimizes mistakes....but at the end of the day, he doesn't have the talent to be the starting QB at UGA. Plain and simple.
