I mean, at the moment LSU looks to be no better than Kentucky and I doubt MSU would be getting this much praise if that was their opponent last week.

All good points. And I agree that I think too much is being made over their win over LSU. However, couldn't the same be said about Notre Dame. I mean, we dropped two TD passes and settled for a field goal after Nauta was grabbed in the end zone making him miss another TD. We could have beaten ND by 17 points and that game could easily have spiraled out of control for them. Would that mean they are really, really bad?

I just FEEL like this is going to be much, much closer than many on here believe it will be.

It will be close but never really in doubt in the 4th. I imagine were up 24-14 until they kick a late fg making the final score a touchdown margin.

I see a defensive slugfest. My hope is that we will be able to run the ball while our D rests on the sideline.
If we win TOP we win.

I'm not sold on our offense like most on this board.

There are too many "we dropped this", we were "penalized for that", and we "missed this opportunity for points" against Notre Dame.

I think that is who we are. We have a brand new OL and a brand new QB. What are there, 2 underclassmen on the OL going up against some pretty dang good DL? We have a QB who heaves it and runs with it, but could do well to play field position when under duress.

I still think we win. But I think a lot on this board are setting themselves up for a rampant gamethread where they lose their minds while we are offense with "this penalty" "this drop" and "this poor choice by Fromm".

"App State is a really good team this will be a big test"

"Notre Dame is going to be the big test"

"Miss State, this is the big test"

"Tennessee, playing on the road vs SEC caliber big boys, this will be the big test. MsSt was overrated."

"Florida has talent all over the field, they always play us hard and they have our number. This one has SECCG implications, this will be our big test"

And so on and so forth.

Welp, if you've been around the game in a player capacity you'll probably always remember your coach telling you week in and week out that "TONIGHT IS THE BIGGEST GAME OF YOUR LIFE!!!!!"

You might be playing Sister Mary's School for the Blind that week and it's still "the biggest game of your life."

Fair enough. I think their offense is better than ND (better than any team we have faced).
I think their defense is better than ND (better than any team we have faced).

That doesn't mean we lose. I don't think they've seen a defense like ours. But our offense made mistakes against ND. Our offense will make mistakes against a better Miss St. Home field will help significantly. But we have to execute against a team that believes in themselves and believes they can fight for a full 4 quarters. We have to execute with a C and LG that have underwhelmed against bad competition. We have to execute with a true freshman QB going up against the most complicated defense he might see in 4 years.

I think their offense is better schemed and coached than Notre Dame but ND has better faster athletes and our defense was fast and strong enough to set the edge and stop them in a very similar offense. I agree with you about our offense though.

Exactly. We are the favorites. We are at home. frick MSU they are about to get exposed as frauds, much like they did to LSU.

This MSU team has similar qualities to Cam Auburn team. 2 dominant players - NG and QB. Neither is as dominant as AU was with Scam and Fairley though. And supporting cast is worse also.

I think Kirby's biggest test will come in December against Saban in the Benz for the SECCG

that said...I have some very good LSU friends who follow their program closely...they are in a bad way right now...they lost a lot and many do not like Ed O....LSU played a horrific game and had many penalties that were game changers...i.e....the targeting ones...I know MSU has a good interior D line and a very talented QB...but I heard similar things about the qb from ND....lets see how good he is with Zo all up in his face for 4 quarters....also...our running back talent level is gonna be hard to stop...and will get even tougher to stop as the season goes on...we have 2 very respectable qb;s who are young..but talented...IMHO...we don't lose this game..I would be shocked honestly

If we win this game, we won't get any special credit for it. We'll hear that MSU was overrated, they had a hangover from beating LSU, we got lucky with our scheduling this year, MSU was under .500 last year, blah blah blah.

The main thing is just to get the win, go 1-0 in the SEC, show some improvement and get ready for the Vols. The only game that will show we've really arrived is beating Alabama in the SECCG.

So going undefeated to the SECCG and losing by a field goal or less won't show we've arrived?

Maybe, but I think ND was more threatening to UGA specifically, if only because of St. Brown on the outside. MSU doesn't have anyone like that.

Our last coach lost in the SECCG by a few yards. We hired this one for those few yards, so yeah - until we beat Bama (or whoever supplants them) in the SECCG, we haven't arrived.
