The irony of it all...

All we Georgia fans hear week in and week out in the Fall is how we consistently underachieve and we will never see a national title under Mark Richt.
The powers that be finally get tired of the noncompetitive loses to big rivals in the SEC and we pull the trigger and Fire Richt.
First off let me say that there will never be a "good time" to fire Mark Richt. The guy is a class act and is a genuinely good person, a rarity in the realm of college sports. No way will he ever be fired where there isn't some sect upset because we are losing that type of guy.
With that said, now we are getting looked down upon for firing Richt by those same counts. I don't get it. I have caught more shite this week then when he was the coach by multiple fans from other teams.."I can't believe yall fired him"....he was such a good person, why did your admins do that?"..."I don't like GA anymore because of this!"...
The irony is beyond hilarious. Its simple. We want to fricking win something. We haven't won the Natty since before I was fricking born and haven't had an SEC title in 10 fricking years. GA needs a change but I just think its funny that some of those people whos favorite shtick was to make fun of GA for not winning are now some of the most condemning over his firing.
Maybe I just need new friends.

The grass is always greener man. Except now, Richt looks like the greener grass.
It will die down once a hire is made and football activities resume, but for now...yeah it sucks.

It's a college football message board man...people love to berate other teams for the heck of it. Agree with what you're saying though.

Speaking of irony, with all the shite SCe fans talk about CMR over the years, go to their 247 board & read the 10-12 threads on the 1st page calling for Tanner to hire Richt now that Herman & Smart are outta the picture...

These people don't give a shite about Georgia...they just want to bitch and criticize UGA. The same media throwing Richt under the bus after AL and FL are now hand wringing about how we could fire such a great guy.
We haven't threatened to win an SEC Championship one year since 2005. That's once in 10 years that we had a legit shot to win our own conference. We were only winning 1 out of 3 games against teams with winning records since 2008 (or some damn thing like that...we all know the stats). This wasn't going to change with CMR.
Also, I don't buy CMR's whole "I want to get back to coaching football" thing. He was the damn head coach...he could coach as much football as he wanted. Also, it sounds alot like the post 2010 "get back to learning and coaching football" speech. How much time do you need to get your shite together?
The reasons for making the change are clear and it needed to happen...don't let these folks give you buyers remorse. Even if we frick up the hire - I promise we won't be winning any fewer SEC titles over the next 10 years than we did over the last 10.

This. It's not just your friends, it's everyone. ESPN spent the better part of yesterday essentially saying "Careful what you wish for UGA", pointing to both UT programs among others who have mightily struggled after ditching a coach who has been well above average. The biggest difference is at least both of the UT programs got a NC out of the deal. Richt had 2 good shots in 02 and 12, with 07 being an underwhelming year with amazing talent.
Ultimately, the same people who were talking about how UGA just can't get it done in the big games now seem to think that you can't let the coach responsible for that culture go. I love Richt and do hope there is a way that he stays at the University in some capacity, but from what I've seen, he's just got too much coach left in him to hang it up and even less desire to continue to work with Ears in any way.

This stuck out to me as well. Initially was like... why didn't you do that here, particularly given that his first 5 years were so strong while he was hands on with the offense. What I took away from the further explanation was that he seemed to be indicating that he just bit off more than he could chew with time commitments, and that as a HC there is just a ton of conflicting priorities, and he didn't do a great job setting expectations for the non-FB related ones. Seemed like it was more focused on what he saw as a misstep during his tenure and something he'd like to fix either by taking a non HC job or if he is a HC, making sure to establish those boundaries early. As a first time HC, he spent a lot of time learning at UGA (even though he had on field success early), which is one of the reasons I'd like to see someone who's at least done the HC thing at least once.
TL;DR... I agree with Squatch.

Agree. I think he will take a HC job at a lesser program, possibly Maryland, and basically become his own OC. He will hire young understudy like he did with Bobo to mentor into an OC. He could significantly improve a team like Maryland or Virginia. Virginia might be the better choice since he would have an easier schedule in the ACC.

He could also continue his yearly beatdowns of Georgia Tech

It was handled poorly. Richt knew it was coming... You could tell.
In any case, the AD could have gotten out in front of it by saying that they have " offered" Richt and Assistant AD role, with direct responsibility of the welfare of all current and past UGA Athletes. If Richt's turned it down, it was on him, but at least have it solidly out there so it didn't look like we wer kicking s successful and well respected and loved coach to the curb. It was gonna be messy regardless and it may well be the right decision.... But how you handle it goes a long way. I think we look amateur right now...

While I agree, it surely could have been worse. At least we had a presser with Richt and McGarity in the same forum. It was definitely less of a embarrassment than what happened at LSU. And heck, Southern Cal has had some brutal firings in which their former HC was basically run out of town. Just ask Lane Kiffin.
Our fans will be a lot less worried about the process if it yields stable and good results. All we can hope is that the plan to bring in Smart works out and he gets more of the cream of the crop of our in-state recruits. I just hope we still get Eason and have a Stafford-like big gun who can drill an accurate pass 40 yards down field.

Having them both out there together was a bad idea because Richt carried himself much better than McGarity. I'm not sure that it wouldn't have been better to have two separate pressers because McG does need the chance to say that the expectation is to be able to compete for conference championships (not necessarily national) and this hasn't been happening. Also, 9 - 3 is meaningless if the 3 losses are against teams that aren't teams with dismal records.
I would've liked to have seen Richt given a couple of more years - but now that we've pulled the trigger I don't like this whole CMR is a victim movement - and he plays it a little too well for me.

I mean....get fricked.
Playing the victim? The guy got oustered after a 9-3 season and all he did was handle it with class. There were no F you McGarritys, no negative statements towards the school or any of that. He's only "playing victim" in the words of the same papers and publications who wanted him crucified and burned at the stake a month ago. He even told people to not feel sorry for him.
He says he knows he will be fine....because he knows he will be fine. The religious stuff that comes out of his mouth is A-OK with me because he believes it and lives it will full conviction....he's not a half asser there.
He'll go coach Maryland, UVA or really any other non SEC team, make 40-50mil over the rest of his career and be A-ok. This playing the victim crap is just that. Crap. He knows he didn't meet the high expecations and knows there's nothing he can do about that. He's at peace and will move on to a place where 9-3 is a-ok for the fan base and he and that team will be better for it in the long run.
