I love the direction we are headed. Hopefully we will finish the drill and beat TCU giving us some great momentum heading into the off season.

However, with our recruiting being about as good as it can be and all the Juniors we have returning, I'd say the heat is on for Kirby to win the East next year.

We are currently bitch slapping every East team in recruiting, and I mean decimating them. Stack that with UF losing a ton of defensive Talent and UT also losing a good bit and, imo, that means UGA should be the clear-cut East favorite next year.

I understand our team is still young, but we will have senior leadership on both sides of the ball...year 2 under Smart which mean the "not buying in" excuse is gone. Everyone who was still on the Richt train will be processed. (We are already seeing this) so that excuse is gone. Eason will be a year 2 starter with a pretty solid set of receivers in Wims, Ridley, Nauta and Imac,(if he returns). The defensive should just keep getting better and towards the end of the year the kicking game was looking good. Literally the only issue we should have is maybe some Oline attrition early in the year, but I expect Pittman to have them rolling by mid season.

So, I am excited for the way things are looking, the only piece to this puzzle that we are going to have to wait and see is Kirby and company's game day coaching and game planning.

We should be favored to win the East next year, and imo, anything less will be a huge let down.

I don't think Chubb and company wanna come back to play in the Music City Bowl.

I, as a whole, agree with what you are saying. however, in fairness, you can only expect so much help from your freshmen. (We probably won't get any help from our RB's with what we have returning, and the effectiveness from the OL prospects will be limited because of being physically ready. (However, it might be better than what we got this past season)

What, in my opinion, gives us the big advantage, is not losing much, and returning Chubb, Michel, Carter and Bellamy. That was huge. We were a little worried about our LB depth, and now we have time to address that. I certainly do agree, though, that we should easily win the SEC East, and will be disappointed if we don't give a decent showing in the SECCG. The pressure has been amped up on Kirby. The team has grown up quickly, now we need our coach to grow up quickly and coach like a seasoned coach.

2017 should be a good bit better, but there's just too many ? on the OL. Add to that the LB situation, along with possible DB's leaving too. Special teams is not yet special, but is getting better. Then, there's coaching. I know it's early, but I could see a 9 win regular season, maybe 10.

I'm not buying a change in the program for 2017.

Why will we be able to run the ball better in 2017? Convince me.

Why will we be able to hold the edge against opponents in their running game better than in 2016? Convince me.

We have a lot of areas that have me excited. We have a lot of room for improvement at QB, WR, TE, DL, and DB next season. I see us getting better in those areas. But those areas are not as important as our run game and stopping the run.

OL is clearly still a major question mark, but we should at the very least be a lot bigger and more powerful there. Eason should also have a better grasp of the offense and be able to get us into better run checks at the line.

We are essentially getting Carter and Bellamy back for contract years. I think next year is also big for a guy like Chauncey Manac coming off his redshirt season. He's got all the tools.

I agree, but I think we need to come to grips with the fact that there is a good chunk of this fan base that is never going to put the heat on Kirby to actually win football games.

We SHOULD win 10 games next year. Easy-arse schedule and tons of returning starters at key positions.

We give up 10 to 15 yards per exchange. We need a punter.

I expect us to be a thorn for man teams next year. I don't 100% think we'll win the east though. 2018? I fully expect us to win the east. I will be very disappointed if we don't win it in the next 2 years

What situation? We got to major pieces just said they were coming back. Are we losing a LB?

along with possible DB's leaving too.

The only one I am familiar with is Mo Smith. I mean, we have two players that did not get much playing time leaving, but that's it.

Then, there's coaching.

I honestly believe he will be fine. He has a lot to learn, but showed improvement over the course of the year.

If we don't get 10 wins I will be very disappointed. if we don't get 9 I will be extremely disappointed. We return almost our entire starting lineup from an 8 win season ans we have an easier schedule.

I'm not sure where you got your statistics from....but Barber averaged 41.47 yards a punt. The #10 punter in the nation averaged 44.95 yards a punt. That's only 3 1/2 yards a punt difference. Now, I realize that hang time, etc. factors in, and I'm not sure about net yardage, but I think you are WAY off on your stats for punting. I'll see if I can find where we stood on net yardage.
ETA
Just found it. We had a net yardage of 38.88. The number 3 punter in the nation had a 40.89 average. We were not nearly as bad as many think. We have way too many people that take a single incident and blow it up to make it sound like we are horrible at a position. Add to that....Barber is only a freshman and should get better.

I just want someone to tell me who should win the East?

UF - has not recruited well the past few years and are losing a lot of defensive talent that has allowed them to win the East the past few years.

Tenn - Butch is a hot mess...losing Dobbs and RB's and a lot of talent on Defense. I expect Tenn to take a step back next year.

USCe is really the only team who you might could say CAN win the East as I believe Dowdel and that QB are legit and never underestimate a Muschamp Defense, but there is a pretty large talent gap between USC and GA now.

I mean if not us who? IMo its SEC East champs or bust because while we might not be the best team in the SEC, we should 100% be the best team in the SEC East.

Agreed. If we don't win it this year, we would need to take a long hard look at Kirby. I'm not saying we should fire him, or anything close to that. I still say he needs 3-4 years. However, we should, with what we have returning, be the easy favorites.

The East is shite. Our ultimate goal over the next 2-3 years should not just be to be Alabama's next chew toy, the point of hiring Kirby was to become a national championship contender.

Now, obviously I don't expect that this year, but we should be taking real, tangible steps to that each year. I mean steps that are visible on the field and on the scoreboard.

I expect us to win the East because it sucks and our schedule is easy. By 2019, I expect us to be capable of winning the damn SEC.

Sooner than that.

We'll be the most talented team in the East next year and should win it. By 2018, UGA should be capable of beating Alabama. Not favored, but capable.

Generally agree. The only reason I extended another year out is because Alabama is an all-time dynasty right now. By the time we become able to beat them, we'll be ready to win a NC

100% agree...those guys deciding to return next year has turned up the heat on Smart and Company to get it done. Winning the SEC East next year should be the expectation and rightfully so. Talent won't be an issue...it remains to be seen if coaching will be.

IF our recruiting holds and we finish as expected we should have over 50+ top 300 players and 50+ 4/5 stars on the roster.I know our average was around 40ish during the CMR years.

Will this be our most talented 85 man roster in the last 20 years?

How many folks predicted 9, 10 wins for 2016? A bunch. Heck, I predicted 9 myself. I stand by my post. 2018 should be the year, not 2017. Now, if it is, great. But...no
