Anybody tried one of these with Directv?

Satellite

I know it is only SD but I gave up with HD in our tailgate spot with some trees that are in the way of those satellites.

They've worked pretty well in my experience. About $1500 will get you one of those and a Ryobi portable generator at Home Depot. Throw in a Black Friday TV and you've got a nice Christmas gift if you can swing the package.

I've thought about going that route as I too have U-Verse.

Seems to be legit, just need a power source obviously. Luckily for me though the people who put on the tailgate I go to bring all their stuff including a 5th wheel for ac in early games/heat in late season games and a nice clean spot to clear my bowels. I try and bring enough food and women for them to keep me around.

I have Verizon and unlimited data. Also bought a Chrome cast. So I tune into the game on my phone and it streams to the TV.

Obviously a lot of variables - is the game on ESPN, how's your wireless carrier signal, rtc

What do you use to stream it?

I am about to get UVerse but I figured the wireless box had to be within the network of your DVR?

Oh ok you use chromecast. Well, shite. I have apple tv and roku and those require a network. Guess I could get a direct hook up.

Only problem with chrome cast at a tailgate is data usage on your phone. If you've got that figured out then no worries. The advantage with the satellite is that it's subscription based so you keep the equipment and just pay to tap into the satellite network when you're wanting to

We have been using an old single LNB dish for 10 years now. This new unit may be easier to haul. It gets its power from the coax.

We tried an HD Directv dish but their HD satellites hang very low and apart and make dialing it in a nightmare..so we stick with SD.

This new King unit does HD for Dish but just SD for Directv. The Dish version is cheaper...just not in the mood to switch providers.

The automatic HD unit for Directv is $1,600ish.

In college I used to go to all the road games and on the way home I would bluetooth my phone and have redzone played on my dash for our drive home. Every month AT&T would text me that I had exceeded data limits and would throttle me. Not charge me but slow my phone to a crawl haha. That and every time I upgrade or do anything they try to take the unlimited data away. Hey, they made the mistake and have to live with it.
