And I couldn't be happier.
I don't have any ill will for the guy personally, but I'm certainly happy he's gone and that UGA sent him out the way they did.

It's respect for a worthy adversary. The game will miss him. Without him, the South Carolina game will be no different than the Missouri game.

I wonder if some of yall felt the same parting sorrow when urbs left florida? I mean he had it out for us, routinely kicked our arse, and made no bones about rubbing it in either. Same with fulmer. I don't see any love lost for those clowns.

Come on man, you can't possibly be that much of a conference homer. USCw is one of the top 2-3 gigs in America. South Carolina is not.
It's similar to Michigan last year. Whoever was looking for a big name coach had to line up behind Michigan because they were the biggest and best job available.
SEC >>> Pac 12 as a whole.
USCw > any SEC coaching job with the exception of maybe Alabama.
I'll put it another way. If Chip Kelly's agent gets a phone call from Ray Tanner, he would laugh and hang up immediately. If he gets a call from Pat Haden, he's going to listen.

Pretty mild. Not enthusiastic, not sad to go. I detect a little bit of joy (probably relief).
He started off by saying "Let's just make this clear, I'm not retiring. I'm resigning". But he quickly followed by saying he doubts he'll ever head coach anywhere again, well, except maybe at a high school or something. He also didn't rule out assistant anywhere.

Just saw the presser during lunch and have to hand it to Spurrier.
It didn't sink in initially but by doing it this way he's giving his Asst OC (who was named interim) and the current staff a chance to win the permanent job. If he'd waited until the end of the season I doubt they'd have had a chance against other applicants with larger resumes.
I call it a class and selfless move. It's not like there was anywhere else to go with this season. Good job....

That is the spin. It was known that he had one more year unless they did real well. As the season progressed, it was clear it wasn't going to go past this year. Coach Tanner already let it be known that his comments set the program back 4 years. Spurrier wanted his son to get the job, but that was not happening. He was becoming more bitter and less controllable. Tanner had had enough and frankly this move has helped preserve his legacy and will most likely help with their recruiting vs him resigning a month before NSD.
Spurrier has way too much pride to have done this for his assistants. He didn't even do this for himself. He was forced out and frankly, it was the right move for USC.

Spurrier quit because we whipped them like a rented mule and are as bad as we are.....it was all he could do after our being exposed as being so bad that UT can beat us.....if you can't out coach Mark Richt who can't out coach Butch Jones it is time to leave
