Maybe, but I just don't think he has it in him anymore.

Watching him talk about his own team in press conferences was just depressing.

College football is, undoubtedly, better with him in it. I already miss him, he had no filter, and had the biggest rocks in the game, wasn't afraid to say what came to his mind. I love him being gone for the dawgs and because I hate the man as a Uga fan, but dammit I'll miss him.

Best thing about the retirement is hearing all of the quotes and stories I've never heard before. One person said their best story was when spurrier was told a fire at auburn had destroyed 20 books, to which he responded, "the real tragedy is that 15 hadn't been colored yet"

People are already talking about mark dantonio from michigan state to replace him, which sounds outrageous until you remember he's an SC alum.

I do not miss him. I do not want him to be sick but I do not ever want to lose to him again.

You know, in an odd way I absolutely love the guy. He's the Old-School southern odd-ball with a unique gift. Football and the SEC is better for having him around. I for one will miss the Ole Ball Coach...all his UGA success included.

Agree. Some of his press conference quotes were some of the funniest things I've ever heard related to CFB. "Can't spell Citrus without UT" is one of the great one liners of all time.

Spurrier was single handedly responsible for modernizing the SEC. Before he brought the fun and gun to the league, it was an average at best conference that relied on a dying offense (wishbone).

Very glad his last game against UGA was his team getting beaten like a yard dog between the hedges. College football will miss him, though.

Their HC search will be interesting. They'll obviously be in line behind USCw in the coach search, but they could still get a good name. Part of me thinks they missed their chance with Dantonio. He's settled in at MSU and I think he's starting to get up there in age a bit. If Texas fires Charlie Strong, I think that would be a good fit for them and a scary one for us. Strong will be a very good HC someday, but it probably won't be at Texas.

Is this where USC hires a knockout coach and we fight for 4th place in the East?

Yep. When we went over 50 points I smiled just a little, and poured another George Dickel.

It was definitely time. Surprised he didn't wait until the end of the season, though.

I'll miss his wisecracks but I won't miss him. Hopefully now the UGA/USCe "rivalry" will go away.

He hates Georgia and the best thing about his retiring is the last game he ever coached against us we pulled a number 6 on him

UGA fans won’t be nearly as emotionally invested in this game. I’m going to miss it, because Spurrier vs. UGA was entertaining as hell.

Just glad we were able to hang 50 on him between the hedges before he retired.

Danny wuerffel : Spurrier to me once after an interception: "Danny, It's not your fault...It's my fault for putting you in the game."

Amazing that some of you are "going to miss" spurrier and are "sad" that he's gone. The frick is wrong with yall? There hasn't been one human being on earth the last 3 decades that has delighted as much or had as much of a personal hand in the failures of UGA football. I'm ecstatic he's gone, and couldn't be happier that we hung 50 on him and beat their arse one last time before hitting the road. They're 2-4 and losers of 4 of their last 5 games, players are taking to twitter to regret their decision to come to SC, players are taking personal shots at other players, and they currently have the 35th ranked recruiting class (sandwiched between utah and houston) with several recruits sure to bail, meaning at the moment SC football doesn't even have any real discernible positives for the immediate future.

And I couldn't be happier.

don't think this is necessarily true..SEC is equal or even better than the PAC whatever and money, loyal fanbase, and other intangibles make the SCU job pretty desirable.
