The truth of the matter is Fox has done what he was brought here to do, bring the program out of the cellar and create some stability.
Yep, he's done exactly that. So are we supposed to give him a lifetime contract for it? Should we as a program not aspire to be better?

firing Fox isn't going to turn the program around
how do you know? Are you really saying that getting a better coach can't give us better results?
quote:
That's going to take a systematic change from the top.
Why? We don't need to raze stegeman to win a game in the NCAAT, we need a better coach.

No matter how much you bitch or moan or call people names firing Fox does not automatically make our program a top tier program.
And once again, nobody has ANY delusion whatsoever of us being a top tier program. We simply want to be better than we are, which we are perfectly capable of, and the guy that we've had for 8 years now hasn't taken us there. If/when he returns next year and we go through the same old song and dance of just missing out on the tourney what will the excuse be then going into year 10? That we're finally on the verge of breaking out?

That's a lot of stupid crammed into one post.

Apple and Oranges.
Yes, one involves a coach coaching his hand picked players in his well installed system, and the other one involves a coach coaching another coaches players in a brand new system. Its absolutely absurd to give the former a break, but not the latter.

The point you seem to keep missing is that firing Fox isn't going to turn the program around
Lets review the last few times we fired a coach for lack of results on the court:
Hugh Durham
Tubby Smith
Jim Harrick
Mark Fox
All 4 replacements improved the program they inherited, which proves your idea to be full of BS.

Also, this coming from the same guy that wants to put all blame for UGA's lackluster 2016 football season on Kirby Smart in year 1, but somehow it's confusing to think that Fox should shoulder most of the blame for the perceived underperformance UGA's basketball team in year 8... Sure... someone's moving goalposts.
PB: You have continually said that you are "not against firing Fox" but that you don't think firing him will address anything unless the basketball program is given more support. I've asked before, but could you define what that support would look like other than "build a new arena"? I may have missed it, but every time I ask that it seems to get ignored, and not just by you... I've given my thoughts on what needs to happen in one of these damn threads, but sincerely curious what other recommendations or things people think we can do to improve the program beyond getting the right coach here.
First, my entire Fire Smart thing was a schtick... anyone who has seen me post for a while should have gotten that.... I was sincerely disappointed in a lot of what he and staff did though. It was making fun of th knee jerk "fire that motherfricker" crowd who devolves to that at the first sign of difficulty.
I this thread I was very much making fun of goal post moving and hypocrisy. The proof sources are there for all to see...
To answer your question, I have admitted that I do not know specifically what we need to do. I really don't. I have been an avid fan of the basketball program for a long time. We never seem to be able to put the pieces together for a sustained period. We have never acted like we want to be a lot more than we are. From the fans all the way to the top. We had a few good runs, but it was almost like we knew they were going to be short lived. I don't go to games very often any more with TV and not loving there, so I can't blame others for not going now, but I damn sure watched us be average to below average for a long time. We have shown we can get bandwagon fans if we are a winner, but we have proven that we can't sustain it. It's always been something that knocks us way back down... but the one thing I would say is most constant is not having a lot of basketball players on the team that are as good as the ones on the other team. Fox recutited more NBA players at Nevada I'm pretty sure. In all these years, we have never built a machine to bring in our share of good players. Maybe a shithot coach can come here and change all that. I'd love for that to happen. Everything I know and experienced about UGA basketball tells me it won't happen or be more than a flash in the pan. I'd love to be wrong though.
