Joystick is being dismissed for cheating on one exam and we couldn't get an appeal like every other student in the world.

Cheating isn't the kind of thing that is ignored.

I just wish we would stop going out of our way to prove we aren't all-in. Jan Kemp has been dead for 10 years now....can we stop the self immolation?

On one exam, huh? Is that how cheaters work? Just the one time?
He cheats... or we cheat by playing someone academically ineligible. He is lucky to have his big game against TCU. How many remember the bowl games missed by Caleb King and Johnathan Jenkins for grades. (Didn't iMac miss the last bowl from the 2015 season?).

This is also a different, better university than when Jan Kemp was here. Academic standards and profile at UGA are much higher now than they ever were then. If he cheated, let him appeal so he can attempt to finish his degree. But if he cheated, he should lose the privilege to play. If you're still going to cheat after 3 years at UGA with the mountain of academic support you have as an athlete, you need to gain some perspective. Best thing he can probably do for himself at this point is to get out of Athens and work for a living by trying to make it with an NFL squad. Hopefully the whole experience teaches him something.

The university isn't better because of Jan Kemp. University is better because ATL doubled in size + the Hope scholarship.
I'm not necessarily focused on this incident, have 0 details. But no program other than our reputable one drug tests kids coming home from spring break or dismisses kids for "drug paraphernalia"...whatever the hell that is.

Exactly and we wonder why we keep coming up short but donations keep going up for garbage home schedules with mostly nooners

I never said the university was better because of Kemp; I said that the academic standards have changed since the 80s when that whole incident occurred.
And our superfluous drug testing policies on the part of the Athletic Association have nothing to do with the Universities academic standards. Apples to Oranges.

I'm confused....who's suspending and dismissing all our players?
The apple and orange is the uneven playing field our institution creates and enforces vs the teams we're supposed to compete with. No one is making us do much of what we do. I don't care about university vs athletic association. I care about the overall disadvantage we give ourselves as the aggregate result of our policies.

Our AD drug thing is an issue for me... no doubt.
To say he didn't get a fair or even equitable shake is unfounded. He may have only ended up with a F in the class and it lead to his grades bing too low. Expulsion for cheating would have to be a humdinger of a first offense and he would have certainly had a chance to refute it.

We're getting in some very good receiver prospects so it doesn't matter much. Maybe the new guys won't get arrested for terroristic threats in the Chili's parking lot.

The Athletic Association makes all of those calls (and lets point out that McKenzie was neither suspended nor dismissed, only rumored to have been encouraged to go pro because the prospects were not good that he would be able to come back and play another year).

You can howl at the moon over the drug policies and I won't begrudge you over that; it's a clear competitive disadvantage over a substance that has been legalized and sold in many states.
But the academic issue is a totally different ballgame altogether. No institution of higher education should allow or condone cheating of any kind. Period. And every student at UGA (athlete and regular student alike) should be held to that same standard. That shouldn't be arguable (whereas the drug policy/testing most certainly is)

Actually, McKenzie getting busted means we are all in as a university.
We are not, however, all in as a football factory.

If he was/is being dismissed for cheating, why was he allowed to play in the bowl?
Posted on 12/31/16 at 3:43 pm to dustin8131
Oh please. Your angry we don't cheat more? Get a life.
