so let's consider what could happen and how it could happen. It would be stupid to fire coach Richt ( or any coach) during the season and right now is not the time for the dreaded vote of confidence. The AD's feet are under the fire for several things including lack of an IPF, funneling money to the academics, out of date facilities, etc so he's got a plate full without the football program being a pain. The noteworthy donors still support coach Richt for the most part so we have to believe there will be some public discussion at the end of the season (depending on how the rest of the season plays out). If there's a current management problem (cliques dividing the team, or a drug problem like in Donnan's term, etc), the AD (and maybe even the president) has a "Come to Jesus" talk with the entire coaching and supporting staff (and likewise the coaches to the players). Plan is put into motion to remove the causes as soon as possible, etc. If there is no "cancers", but some obvious coaching issues, then those are dealt with immediately but privately as well.
Discussion has to be held at some point to alter the recruiting philosophy to move to a more "player wants to come to UGA" recruit and less the "player wants to play for Richt" recruit. We need dawgs here in the program who can finish plays and games, not players who firstly want to be like Mark. Even if the mission of the program is to produce fine educated citizens, they really need to stop saying that. The mission of the program has to be moreso winning as many games as we can while running a clean, aboveboard athletic program (and Richt has to be made to buy into this or he would indeed be sent packing at the end of the year). No more "there's things more important than football" we get that already but it's your job to win the games you're supposed to win and compete like heck in the ones you aren't.

So...thoughts?..

I think your wishlist is accurate, but I don't see it happening.

At least we saw a little emotion from Richt this weekend. He legit looked pissed...which is better than the monotone stare he usually had...he almost threw his clipboard after that missed FG...lol

and I heard he was snippie with the reporters.

We need coaches who can recruit like hell AND coach the kids they recruit....we don't need coaches who try to fit players into a system but coaches who fit the system to the players they have. We aren't 3 deep with 4 star recruits like the better teams in our conference.

There is nothing administratively wrong with the program. It is in as good a shape as any program in the country and is the envy of even the best programs. We just are not an elite program...period. Never was and never will be. If we were to hire Saban or Meyer or Harbaugh (or fill in the blank with your dream coach) we would still be 3 or worse in the SEC east and 5th or worse in the SEC. There would be nothing coming from outside of themselves to win big.

The mere fact alone that we all knew this was a 3 loss season, as we know every season with the exception of 2008 is going to be, explains all anyone needs to know about UGA football from a program point of view....3 losses EVERY season is acceptable (as long as one of them ain't GT) because we expected to lose 3 in August.

Play out the season and pray for the 9-3 record that most of us predicted before the first game

Your a Dumb arse!

I'm glad everyone has an opinion. The thing is though we have zero control of anything that happens at UGA. I'm tired of half our fan base melting and crying every single year and wanting to fire half our staff every time we lose a game. shite happens could we be better yes. Have we gotten better over all as a program with Richt here? frick Yes! Richt isn't going any where until he retires so why doesn't everyone just stop with all these dame threads and just finish the season and support your team.

Even though I want Richt gone, I wouldn't want it until the end of the season.

I like you, think that it's stupid to fire a coach mid season. Unless of course we are like 0-6 or something like that.

But in all honesty it doesn't matter if the fan base is split or not. No one here makes the decisions.

Boils down to our athletic department. If they want to win football games and try to make us an elite program with the talent we have, then they will do what needs to be done at the end of the season.

If they want a good guy coach that will average 9 wins a year, and go to a crap bowl game every year, then we keep who we have.

Either way I'll be here rooting for my team. I'll just adjust the expectations I have.

Pretty sure he threw his headset after one of the we-can't-count-how-many-dudes-should-be-in-the-huddle calls.

First we got better, then we got worse.

The team is not the coach, the coach is not the team. It's quite possible to support the team and simultaneously think that Richt should be given two in the back of the head. Not that anyone is quite that extreme about it, but there are a number of good arguments for not wanting him as the coach anymore.

I think everyone needs to chill and wait for this weekend. How we perform in the game this weekend will tell us how the coaches and team respond. If they fight and win, then we could be 8 - 4 or 9 - 3. Lose this weekend who knows how bad can this be.

We have been fine with mediocrtiy, 3-4 loss seasons, losing to teams like Colorado, UCF, Florida and Vandy when we have better talent....poor record vs ranked teams, havent won shite since Van Gorder left....surely we won't fire him now. We send plenty of players to the NFL, we could end up like the Vols and Richt loves Jesus. We are stuck with mediocrity.

We already saw how they respond to an epic beating from a good team, now we get to see how they respond to an epic collapse against a more average team.

I agree. If this defense does not stop Missouri this weekend we are in deep trouble. Missouri is no where as good as I thought they would be but then again I thought we would beat Tennessee. Remember at Tennessee, without the fumble return and the punt return, one long pass, it would have been bama all over again. I thought this DC was good but apparently not.

Not rewatching that game to make a gif but it happened and he looked pissed. As he should've been after another 12 men on the field (pretty sure that's what it was after, there were a number of things that could've prompted a headset toss).

No video but he grabbed his headset and chucked down behind him. Looked like he nearly hit a GA or someone

Richt looked extremely pissed
