From the ABH....

quote:

Georgia’s recent involvement with transfer quarterbacks is about the situation.

It’s not about the starter.

Here’s the thing — players transfer when they don’t get to start or play enough.

That’s why these names, such as Everett Golson earlier this month and now Greyson Lambert, keep popping up in your Twitter feed.

While Georgia's coaches keep pushing the idea of an ongoing quarterback competition, they’re worried Faton Bauta or Jacob Park will be the next name on the open market.

The staff, I'm told by people I trust, is petrified of that happening.

That's because, barring injury, Brice Ramsey is going to start for Georgia in 2015.

quote:

Ramsey has three years of eligibility left and massively-hyped recruit Jacob Eason enters the collective huddle in January.

Who could blame Bauta, who has already graduated and would be immediately eligible, or the sandwiched Park, a rising redshirt freshman, for leaving?

With that threat in play, Georgia’s in contingency mode.

I don't see this is a problem unless both of them transfer. But even at that, you still have Ramsey starting and Eason coming in behind him next year. Worst case, I'm pretty sure we could find a backup QB for Ramsey leading into this season. Bauta would seem to be the odd man out but I actually like having a potential option/running QB in situations that call for it.

With two more QB's coming in next two years, the answer is when, not if.

We came very very close to losing Mason, even though he was pretty much guaranteed to be the QB for at least one year.

Park and Bauta, barring an injury to Ramsey and/or Eason, are pretty much guaranteed to never be the QB of this team. So yeah, the staff should be concerned about one or both bailing.

I wish Richt would make it clear that the QB competition will extend into this season's first two games where the two top guys will battle it out on an equal basis.

Putting all of the eggs in the Ramsey basket makes me nervous.

I don't think the eggs have been put in anyone's basket yet. All reports indicate it's a legit competition and no one has been handed the job yet.

So what's the deal with Lambert? Virginia was pretty awful last year. Is he worth a look? I know we offered him out of high school.

FWIW... we're still at 86 from everything I've seen so we'd have to make another extra spot for him. Prolly won't happen, but what does it hurt to give him a try out?

Don't we have a preferred walk-on from Cali coming in this summer? Was related to one of the coaches on our staff I believe

Preferred or not, it's still a walk on. They know that one of these guys will leave. I think Park will bolt when it's announced that Ramsey will take over.

Something tells me Colorado State will be an option for JPark, and the weed laws won't hurt.

I've thought Park would end up transferring for awhile now. Still believe it.
