Wreck of the SEC West

The legend lives on from the Harbaugh on down
Of the big dvision that had grown rather snooty
The West, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of January turn gloomy
With a history of lopsided scores twenty-six thousand points or more
The rest of the nation found it petty
That good Division was true and a bone to be chewed
When the gales of January came early

The ship was the pride of the South Eastern side
Coming back from a loss in Pasadena
As the big Divisions go, it was bigger than most
With a players and good coaches well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of broadcasting firms
When they left fully loaded to go bowlin’
Then later that night when the Slive’s warning bell rang
Could it be the yankee wind they'd been feelin'?

The Horned Frogs in the Dome made a tattle-tale sound
When the Badgers broke over the railing
And every fan knew, as the coaches did too
'Twas the witch of January come stealin'
Chavis came late and the defensive planning had to wait
When the Irish of South Bend came slashin'
When Yellow Jackets came it was triple option pain
In the face of a the lack of an SEC west win

When suppertime came, ol’ Slive came on deck
Sayin' "Bama, it's too rough to feed ya"
At nine PM a the tide defense caved in
Smart said, "Fellas, it's been good to know ya"
Saban wired in he had Buckeyes comin' in
And the good West Division was in peril
And later that night when Cardale Jones punched out the Tide lights
Came the wreck of the SEC West

Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the losses turn the minutes to hours?
The pundits all say they'd have made Dallas next Monday
If they'd put fifteen more minutes in each quarter
They might have split up or they failed to capitalize
They may have looked ahead and wished they tried harder
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the beaten wives and the sons and the daughters

TCU rolls, Georgia Tech stings
On the tombs of the West’s ice-water mansion
Old Wisconsin steams toward Paul Chryst’s dreams
The Music City and bars are for Irishmen
And farther below, on Finebaum Radio
Takes in what Alabama can send her
And the Bama faithful all go as the trees of toomers all know
With the gales of January remembered

In a musty old hall in Birmingham they prayed
In the SEC Headquarters
The church bell chimed 'til it rang 5 out of 7 times
For each loss for the SEC West
The legend lives on from the Harbaugh on down
Of the former division with reason to be snooty
The nation, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of January come early
