Yep. Two of the top 7 jobs are open right now. That's a tough year to look for a coach, especially when considering the consequences.

I assume you are talking about USC and LSU? I think we will be able to count Texas in the mix this year or next.

Looking at their history, USC seems to go after coaches with HC resumes from relatively major teams. LSU the same, and Texas is at least WILLING to look at up and coming coaches....but HC nonetheless. We also have USCe in the mix. The hottest coaches right now are Herman and Fuentes. It wouldn't surprise me to see LSU go after an Art Briles type. LSU will go after an offensive minded coach. Rumors are out there that Cip Kelly could be coming back to the college game, so that would make him a major target for any of the top 3 teams. (Texas, LSU and USCw)

If ANY of the main coaches decide to stay at their present position, that would leave UGA out of the mix, for sure.

Honestly, I think UGA will go after a big coach this time. They haven't before, but they are spending money (IPF, Pruitt) so that's why I think they will bump the salary offer up to 5 million if necessary for the right coach.....but then again....who knows?

USC tends to go with guys who have California/Weat Coast connections. Sark had been an OC there and then HC at UW. Kiffin, while pulled out of Knoxville, had been both OC and HC of the Raiders. Carroll was born in Cali, played college ball in Cali, and coached there, too. I could see them going after Chip Kelly.

LSU should go the OkSt route again, honestly.

Honestly, if we fire Richt at this point, I think it's reasonable to say that Kirby Smart is the odds on favorite for the job. Honestly, it could be a lot worse. He is probably the one who would have the best chance of keeping our defensive staff together, he'd bring Scott Cochran, and he apparently has a very, very extensive Rolodex of other coaches from his time among the ranks. Without a doubt, he'd assemble one of the best recruiting staffs in the nation.

he's been there 5 years. What did you expect? Him to come I and clean house and get rid of one of UGA's most popular and winningest coaches ever in his first two years?

This fricking thread still.

If we didn't fire Richt after 2008-2010, why is he getting fired now?

For years McGarity dragged his feet when it came to hiring administrative assistants for our staff and had to be dragged kicking and screaming into building an IPF.We're still years behind our rivals when it comes spending on facilities, staffs etc.

He's a career state employee who's not close to what a modern day SEC AD needs to be.

I don't buy that it's that simple. He came from FL and knows what it takes....so to think he comes to GA and just goes all cheapo on everything out of his own desire to NOT spend money or win anything doesn't make sense.

Either he's incompetent or there's more to the story.

Nothing more than a yes man for Foley. He freakin knew all the bullshite that was going on under Meyer (multiple failed drug test,Hernandez almost beating a guy to death, the thuggery of Rainey and Spikes) and he comes up here and all of sudden he takes the "moral high ground" on disciplinary issues?

I'd much rather have somebody from a sports marketing background.Someone who has a experience with IMG,Nike, etc. or at least some private sector experience .
Being an AD at a P5 school is a completely different job than it was 15 or even 10 years ago.

Everyone in Gainesville is rotfl while two former gators, McGarity and Shoddy, destroy the Georgia program. I guess it's revenge for Muschump.

Really?Do tell? Are you saying he didn't know a thing about the shite going on around Urban? If not,he's either incredibley incompetent or wasn't a very important pard of the athletic dept.Either way, this doesn't look very good for him.

Are you saying he did want an IPF all along?Because for years he said we didn't need one.How bout administrative assistants ?Once again, did a bulb go off all of a sudden in his head when Pruitt arrived?Wow,quite the coincidence I guess.

McGarity was hired by Adams in 2010. In 2013 Adams left. Since then the AD has been spending more to upgrade all sports and facilities. Is this the "more to the story" you're thinking about?

the refusal to give Bobo a raise rumor is true

my brother is good friends with a guy that is good friends with Bobo

my brother actually saw Bobo's email to McGarity and McGarity's response (Bobo asked for commensurate money that other top co-ordinators are getting and McGarity replied that he supported Bobo's desire to pursue being a head coach)

All I have to say is frickity frick frick frick
