Why should any laws be ignored? You can't pick and choose which laws to follow or not. If you disagree with a law or rule, work to get it changed

Athens Clark County Police department is a bunch of IMO, a bunch of steroid abusing assholes. My first encounter with them was being pulled over for a "Rolling through a stop sign". Or as he said, "failure to come to a complete stop before proceeding to enter an intersection".
He proceeds to ask me ask me questions. Which I don't answer.
"Am I being arrested"? His reply. "Do you have a reason to not be arrested".
I used to watch these clowns issue citations for "open container" in front of the gas station on Lumpkin. That is where they are staged. They will bust your arse. Evidently they went to a class on "Cup sniffing".
When I went before the municipal court judge, I watched case after case dismissed.

Jaywalking...
How often is that ignored?

It's been this way for s long time. It must be some sort of deep seeded culture. By culture, I mean their penchant for fricking with students. As now a parent of students there, I'd prefer their focus shifted more to keeping them safe and less drink sniffing and dime bag take downs...

The argument that the arrest is bogus because you think weed should be legal is just ridiculous.
It's not legal, period. All students, parents, coaches, and people living in or visiting in a state in the SEC cannot not buy, sell, own, smoke, or whatever marijuana recreationally.
Not to mention even if was legal, like it is in states out west, NCAA athletes are prohibited from using it, period. It is a violation of rules. Just because you don't like the rule doesn't mean it can be ignored.

Not to mention, all that's going to happen is he'll pay a fine do some community service, get run to hell and back; play in spring game and sit for App st. Not get hurt; and hopefully catch 8 ball for 2 scores against ND

It seems bogus because they chase college kids around and arrest them for minor issues with frequency

It fills the county coffers.

Never mind, arrest report doesn't look good.

“Ridley explained that he and Turner had smoked marijuana earlier in the day before going to Six Flags over Georgia,” officer Pate wrote. “They had bought the marijuana in Florida near his hometown of Ft. Lauderdale. During the course of my investigation it was discovered that marijuana was located in the passenger side door near the speaker. Initially Turner stated that all of the marijuana was (hers) but later retracted that statement.”
would this imply drug trafficking as well?

Keeping people safe doesn't generate revenue. Drinks and drugs do.

A really zealous prosecutor *might* try for it, but generally, no. The amount is probably too small

Well college kids by percentage are running around doing more stupid shite than anyone else in Athens. Drink sniffing is bullshite if you're being cool but that's not always the case. I got away with a lot of stuff that I could've been arrested for...and see shite every time I'm in Athens that amazes me people get away with.
That being said, any amount of weed is going to get you pinched 99 out of 100 times....
If you're going to carry, don't be high...and if you're getting high before you go out ...don't carry. Shits not rocket science.

Only if they believe he had intent to sell. With the amount he got busted with there is 0% chance of a trafficking charge.
