Whole lotta hemming & hawing in this article...

quote:

Rumors swirled about coach Mark Richt’s future in the hours before the Belk Bowl, something he had to shoot down after the win over Louisville.

Three days later, there seemed to be a thawing.

Richt would be getting a contract extension.
quote:

Georgia issued a statement from athletic director Greg McGarity saying he looked forward to helping Richt “move our program forward in all areas,” including the indoor practice facility which Pruitt had said publicly he wanted fast tracked.
quote:

Asked if there was a change in perspective on either the administration or football side regarding resources, Richt said: “Well, I’m always going to give my opinion on what I think we need and we’re definitely progressing and I’m thankful for that.”
quote:

The football support staff has been beefed up and the budget for the program has increased 35.7 percent in the new fiscal year.
quote:

Asked if tensions lessened, Richt said: “Well, I just think that everybody sees things from their chair and there are certain things that every head coach is trying to get his sport in position to have the best chance for victory. The AD’s job is to manage all that. He’s got a lot of head coaches to work with and that’s the relationship between the head coaches and ADs and that’s how it works here at Georgia, too.”
quote:

“I’m just excited about the future of Georgia football and being a big part of it,” Richt said. “Really, I think things are certainly moving and from the facility standpoint, that’s a big deal and there’s other projects that you’ve got to have the vision to look down the road to get to. I think we’re moving.”

I'm guessing there was a standoff.
Richt: Look at the major programs and what they get. We need the same.
McGarity: you just lost to tech. No.
Richt: The program is falling behind.
McGarity: You win and you'll get it but not before.
Richt; frick you dipshit
Mcgarity: fuxk you bad haircut
Richt: at least all my hair is real
Mcgarity: are you going to be fat and tan or in shape and pale or fat and Pale or skinny and tan?

Said Morehead: “Certainly winning the bowl game and winning it decisively and finishing in the top 10 allowed us to end the football season on a very positive (note) and then have a great recruiting year. When things are going well in football naturally the assumption is that the relationships are stronger. I really think that we’ve got strong and positive communication between our football administration and our athletic administration and I’m not really worried about it. I think Coach Richt and the athletic director work very well together.”

Translation: I told McGarity to give the man what he wants or I'll make Pruitt the new AD/defensive coordinator.

Big dollar boys told McGarity to loosen up or they were gonna tighten up their giving. He saw the handwriting on the wall.

Speaking of the IPF and giving Richt & Co. what they want, how is it coming along and what is the completion date for it?

Good question Golden.

Also, I think the ROI for this would be huge if UGA were to win a National title.

Bulldog fans, alumni and others are yearning for the opportunity to call UGA national champs. The revenue from tickets, merchandise, etc would bulk up the reserves again IMO.

Not to mention the new found financial support has created a much more positive vibe (coaching, IPF, Support staff).

This combined with increases in Hartman already (Bama game/Home Schedule) also give back to ROI.

If we allow CMR to live on the virtual hot seat it will be used against us big time. Having a steady coach is a huge advantage over other schools.

EVEN IF, we decide to fire him at some point, we don't need to let it linger for years and cause us to get hurt in recruiting circles.

There is a reason Spurrier keeps having impromptu press conferences. They know it is hurting them.

We would NOT be having the success we appear to be having for '16 and '17 if folks thought CMR was going anywhere. In addition to the quality staff that has been added.

I only think he's been on the hot seat one year during his whole tenure. Most of the "richt is on the hot seat" stuff is just fodder tossed about by our rivals.

Didn't spurrier himself say he'd only be around a few more years? That was like last year I think. He brought that on himself.

Imagine what this thread would be about if we had lost to Louisville 47-10?
Would we be praising Head Coach Smith that was hired away from Murray State to revive the program?

I heard it just two days ago on Atl sports radio. They do it every year to poke ratings to get the battle over good Godly man vs under achiever going.

This year the school has done enough that rivals can't really get much traction with it. Had they reacted differently with $$$$ and coaching hires, all the rumors of tension, etc would be building and used against us.
