That's horrible, and I hope justice is served.
At the same time: don't be football players, don't be football players, don't be football players, don't be football players...

Heard about this last night. First thought as a father was how bad I felt for her and her family. Second was "please don't have anything to do with our athletics program"... Do not need to be another Title IX issue waiting to happen. Having degrees from a couple of places I was always impressed with how well UGA did handle campus security, specifically for women. It's far from perfect, but a shite load better than some other places. (FSU for example had almost nightly, if not more frequent, alerts of rape or "suspicious" individuals who had run ins with females that were reported.)

6 days and nothing has hit the media about it being football players
It is possible that there may be some legal "battles" happening behind the scenes that could be delaying info getting out, but I'm with you in that the AJC didn't even *hint* at it being related to the athletic program. Not even so much as to say that "mostly athletes" live in ECV housing. I hope first of all that the young lady is ok, and getting whatever treatment is needed (both physically and mentally). If it has anything to do with an athlete and the claim is substantiated, I think a swift boot is forthcoming. I don't see Kirby or McG looking to play games around waiting for a full resolution. Preponderance of the evidence and initial depositions and make the call.

That was another thing, I have NO idea if the new 90 day thing is preventing the media from figuring out the names.

true. The AJC is notorious for being staunchly anti-UGA when it comes to stuff like this. They break their necks to be the first to report anytime a player gets pulled over without a license. The first time I saw this story was in an AJC article and they didn't mention anythign about athletes.

The 90 day open records thing has Nada to do with criminal acts Led better thing was reported in 4 hours. Any unlawful/criminal ish is fair game. ..

I think everyone needs to settle down regardless of what's being reported. People do get falsely accused; how 'bout some due process? Also, as far as public info goes, active criminal investigations are not subject to release under the provisions of the Georgia Open Records Act. Now, how that plays out with internal university documents, I'm not sure of. Perhaps someone else knows; but I do know the criminal investigation is not releasable while the investigation's active.

Not entirely true, if I understand the situation correctly. UGA is not required to comply with an open records request prior to 90 days, but the police department records for any official arrest are available to the public rather quickly. The Ledbetter articles came out as a result of that, not UGA providing the info. In this case, if no arrest has been made, I imagine UGA *could* be withholding info, but we don't know that to be the case at all. Again, given that zero hint was given that the athletic department is involved (you *know* there would have been a mention of "no official response to an open records request so far" if one had been made) I'd say it's unlikely that the AJC has been able to tie any connection to athletes thus far. I'd imagine we just need to wait and see what comes out.

Yup. Thus the reason I mentioned preponderance of the evidence and any statements or depositions taken. If the claim is substantiated, it should be fairly clear (well prior to all court proceedings actually completing).

I just checked ACC jail report for the last 7 days and didn't see any football players other than ledbetter (fun fact: middle name is leroy!).
Soo...that tell us for sure that no arrests have been made, at least, no football players arrested. So we have this situation that occured 6 days ago and no arrests have been made (if we look at the worst case scenario of it being a player). That means that either police are still investigating (after this long though?), the case is incredibly flimsy and there's not a solid reason to arrest, or that it's not a player.

We'll have to wait for more facts to come out.
Posted on 7/15/16 at 2:53 pm to jodeaux
Obviously no facts have come out yet on who it is. The did request names of the suspects and the request was denied. You people whining about "rumor" posts are retarded. No where did I state it was a fact. Y'all need some vagisil.

Agreed. Hopefully that'll do it

Didn't teach what the word "if" means at Kennesaw State for you?
if: conjunction
in case that; granting or supposing that; on condition that

both of you guys can let it go... Lew has taken care of the offending posts. bringing it back up is pointless. As of *this* moment, we have insufficient information to make any kind of reasonable assumption.

Football aside this is am issue that is very scary. I have a son who will be a Freshman at UT Austin next fall and it scares me to death that he will on his own, no doubt drinking and looking to get laid....and that he will either do something he shouldn't or get accused of doing something he didn't. I also have a daughter who will hopefully be in Athens in about 12 years *my son's applying to UT came from his mothers gene pool...she was a gator when I met her....and probably still is in secret...) and the same things is true....it is really sobering....
