Decided to take a look at key folks they'll be missing from last year's 11-3 team. 2015 UNC was a pretty good team but their record may be a bit inflated. They played 3 ranked teams last year going 1-2, and also lost to an unranked SC team. Close wins include 7 over a woeful GT, 13 over a bad UVA, 7 against ranked Pittsburgh, and 3 (OT) against VT.

Key Losses:
QB- Marquise Williams
Completed 60% of his passes for 3,000 yards, 24 TDs and 10 Int. Also ran for 950 yards and 13 TDs.

WR- Quinshad Davis
55 rec for 640 yards and 4 TD

OL- starting RG landon turner

DL- starting DT justin thomason
42 tackles, 3.5 sacks

LB- shakeel rashad and jeff schoettmer
Rashad had 126 tackles and 2 INT
Schoettmer had 97 takcles and 2 INT

On paper, UNC brings back a pretty high amount of players who started last year. They return most of both lines, most RBs/WRs, and the secondary.

However, their losses are pretty significant. Anyone who watched UNC last year saw quite clearly that Williams made them go. Losing him will be massive, and his backup threw 47 passes last year. Put up solid numbers, but again mostly in backup duty. They also lose 2 of their top 3 tacklers and 24% of their INT production from last year.

This certainly won't be an easy game, but I think them having a new QB kind of cancels out the fear of us having lambert/ramsey/eason out there. I'll never be worried about the defense with Kirby so if we can just get some moderate offensive production I like our chances.

They're not really starting a "new" QB. He's played many meaningful games/snaps and even started a few times. He's also a MUCH better passer. Not a dual like Williams, but make no mistake about it, he can sling the rock.

Here is what he's done in games with teams resembling a pulse (ie, not the delaware A&T's of the world):

2014

ECU: 8/16 103 yards
Clem: 6/1 49 yards
VT: 1/4 11 yards
UVA: 1/1 16 yards
UM: 2/6 61 yards
NCST: 6/13 80 yards
Rutgers: 7/9 65 yards

2015

Illinois: 2/2 15 yards
WF: 4/6 44 yards
Duke: 5/5 43 yards
UM: 5/5 81 yards
NCST: 1/1 5 yards
Clem: 1/1 16 yards

So no, he's not "new". But I mean what has he really proven? He's shown he's not careless wiht the ball and typically puts it where he needs to go, but has hasn't been the man in anythign close to the bright lights situation he'll face in teh opener.

I haven't felt overly good about this game, but if I remember correctly Baylor went right through their rushing D like a mile long freight train at full speed through wet toilet paper. I have to believe Pittman will get enough out of his group to pave the way for Michel, Chubb, and Holyfield to have big days.

645 rushing yards. That's not a misprint.

ETA: This was with WRs playing QB due to injury. There was zero threat of a passing game whatsoever. Baylor just rammed the ball up their arse and made them like it.

I have to believe we won't be seeing the team fall apart like in years past when it seemed like we couldn't change things up and just kept with the same ole bullshite that wasn't working
