Someone told me a single episode of Dancing With the Stars draws more viewers than the SEC Championship Game

Is this true?

Yes and no. The highest rated episode of DWTS DID pull in more watchers than the SEC Championship game this past season. DWTS pulled in 13.3 million viewrs while the SECCG had 12.8 million viewers.

On a positive note, the "SEC on CBS" was the highest rated sports package on any network for the 6th year in a row.

Also, by comparison, the ACC Championship game drew 9.209 viewers on ABC, almost 4million fewer viewers than the SEC Championship game.

I wonder why the SEC pulls in almost 4 million more viewers than the ACC, even though the Alabama/Missouri matchup was rather lackluster?

ACCCG aired at the same time as the Big Ten CG, between Oh State and Wisconsin.

The SECCG the same day had little to no competition earlier in the afternoon.

Are you surprised this country has more idiots watching washed up "stars" dance than watching college football? I'm not

Another interesting thing about college football ratings is who is watching. Some ESPN executive was being interviewed recently and was describing how the average college football viewer is more affluent than the average NFL viewer.

Obviously the NFL gets higher ratings on average but I found that demographic bit interesting. It doesn't exactly fit the stereotype of the southerner in the trailer watching college ball.
