I have zero confidence that Bauta is a ball control wizard. And the last thing we need is another season where our QB's longest pass is under 50 yards.

Bauta likely has Mason's arm without Mason's accuracy or QB smarts.

I'll trust our coaches on this one.

I think we established some time ago that Tropic Lightning was absolutely an alter. As to which window-licker, specifically? I don't recall.

He was around on the Dawg Rant. He's been around for a looooong time. If he's an alter, he's an old one.

Forget wide open spread offenses (especially considering our personnel).

I don't think anyone is suggesting we run that kind of offense, but we have to at the very least have the threat of a downfield passing game to prevent defenses from playing 8-9 guys in the box for our offense to be at its very best. From everything I've read/seen, Bauta isn't that guy.

That's part of what made Murray so great. He was terrific in the short passing game and very good in the deep passing game. Mason was very good in the short passing game but his deep ball was hit or miss. Stafford was the opposite.

Certainly the threat of a vertical passing game would be nice. If we had that we'd have everything Imho. However, even if we only have a play action passing threat I think that would be enough. It's about the LBs cheating up in the box to stop the run. When they do that it opens a zone behind the LBs and in front of the safeties. We need to be able to make them pay for that. I think that C Squatty can achieve that with our TEs and slot receivers. The more I think about it and look at Lambert I like his height and high release to accomplish that. I'm not saying I wouldn't like a downfield threat - I absolutely would, I'm just saying with our backfield and TEs I don't think we need the best QB in the SEC.

Maybe you should start a "remembering alters" thread. Just a suggestion...

Myself. A lifetime Dawgs fan that grew up in SW GA and went to my first game with my Grandfather to see HW. Came to Boston to go to BU. Not a great football program. Hockey, yes. That's me.

After listening to CMR's presser I think it does sound like a 2 man race now. My own speculation is that Ramsey was somehow lax and the coaches knew he needed some competition to sharpen him. The reason that CMR said he was "more confused after practice than before" a few days back is because by then Lambert had picked it up a notch. CMR said at his presser that Lambert had started slow. I think the more that Lambert picked it up as time has progressed - the more he added confusion to the picture. Perhaps the coaches didn't even expect GL to be serious competition but were truly just using him to apply pressure to BR. Surprise- we actually might have another starter over here.

This is simply my speculation combined with what we now know in hindsight. Also, I think that Bauta has some character qualities that CMR respects AND wishes maybe would rub off on BR and/or GL, however, the reason he has been singing FB praises lately is really because he knows it's over and doesn't want him to feel bad. Richt would do exactly that - kid competed his heart out and wants to acknowledge his effort to build him as a man even in defeat.

Just my 2c
