One of the big determining factors as to just how long Tennessee remains mired in irrelevance is whether or not the schools retains Dave Hart as AD. He's the one who has made the past coaching hires, and by extension the one who has the school in a ~$20M/year deficit paying fired coaches' salaries. There's a lot of folks who believe that ButchWax's fate is tied to Hart's and vice versa.
Knoxville needs a rock star hire at AD more than they do at HC for football/basketball.

Imagine Chip Kelly at UT.
imagine harbaugh at UGA. Oh I thought we were just throwing out things that won't happen.
Timing is everything. Your scenario is preposterous. My nightmare Isnt.

Chip Kelly in Knoxville is terrifying. The SEC East had been lucky that most of the Air Raid, Mike Leach, West Coast spread looks haven't invaded our division. Pruitt's defense dismantled the Gus Bus' O last year on a wholesale basis that we haven't seen in quite some time. Thankfully we don't have to split our attentions equally btw pro style teams, pass read option and the Turkey Neck Wishbone across all 12 games in a given season.
Last week was an aberration in the way we typically handle downhill running teams. Granted, stopping the run was more of a thorn in CTG's side than low-fat nachos, but it got better even in Pruitt's first year.

If the Eagles fire Kelly, he would have his choice of whatever college job he wanted other than OSU, Alabama and Michigan. There will be much, much better options for him than Tennessee (Texas or USC with all of Sark's issues come to mind).
Most schools would fire their HC the day the season ends if they have a back channel deal to land Kelly.

Sure, another job could open up, but there is also a chance UT is the best available one. Its a real good job and Butch is stocking talent up for the next guy.

To hear folks that purport to be in the know, ButchWax has another year to sort it out. I don't know how accurate that is. I'd love to beat them in their own house AGAIN and put another nail in that coffin. Nail by nail, Baby.

He could also take a year off and wait for something better like Urban Meyer kind of did. Tennessee is hard to recruit to because of the lack of in state talent.

You don't want them to focus or even think about the score. You just want them to focus on execution and the individual plays as they come. If they focus on the score their effort, energy and execution will lack consistency.

True that he could wait, but the stars could align, and thats my fear. I learned to never say never after Spurrier and Holtz went to SC, and Saban went to Bama. All of those were unlikely, and we paid for each of them.
