How accurate is Pollack's assessment?

quote:

Andrew Thomas is going to be their right tackle. He’s a freak show,” Pollack said in a fact-or-fiction segment with Maria Taylor and Booger McFardlan. “I went and watched them practice, dude, he looks like and SEC right tackle as a true freshman. He’s going to be unbelievable.”

Our line the next several years with:

LT- Andrew Thomas
G spots- Shaffer/Kindley/Netori/Salyer/Allen/Baker
C- Gaillard/Hill
RT- Isaiah Wilson

Is going to be filthy.

Why does Pollack have him practicing at right then?

is Big Country just going to get lost in the shuffle? We had such high hopes for him originally

He will move from RT to LT next season.

WG - you left Cleveland off the list

because he is currently our RT. Next year when Wynn leaves I would be stunned if we don't move AT to LT and isaiah wilson to RT, where it's long been thought he is most naturally suited.

I didn't forget him, just left him off for symmetry's sake. He's been getting all his reps at RT this year but I didn't wanna put 2 people at RT and only one at LT and didn't know who else to put there so just said frick it.

Still have high hopes for him, I imagine he'll play often this season.

Gotta remember the guy is only a redshirt freshman, and last year he had to basically learn how to play OL since I believe a lot of his Hs experience was on the DL. He's a massive human but there's a lot of nuance that goes into OL. Throw in the fact that Wilson and Thomas are just exceptionally gifted players. I don't think there's any indictment on Cleveland, he's just gotta earn those reps. But he'll definitely play.

Hill will likely stay at Guard, the coaches have apparently told Erickson that they plan on him coming in and playing at Center.

Ya. Heard the kids football IQ is off the charts. A natural born center that can play every position at the next level. Our line is gonna be ridiculous!

At this rate, you're gonna have to make Pittman join the 1 million a year club for assistants.

Can't remember if it was Towers or Sentell but someone on the DawgNation podcast said that if Salyer commits to the good guys, he'll be a starter from day one. Huge praise for the kid.

It's unfortunate that we had to hire the other fat bastard to get him. Is there any precedent for an o-line coach making more than the o-coordinator?

We'll finally have our bookend, prototypical tackles.

It's long been said by the media and by Salyer himself that he is in constant contact with AT as they are very good friends. It bodes VERY well for us that AT is going to start from day 1 because Salyer will too, and he now knows Kirby won't shy away from letting true freshman start if they are better.

Why would he not just commit then? You think Kirbs told him to wait to use his commitment for a booster later on the trail?

I think he is wanting to see if Pittman can truly coach the OL up. If there is improvement with our line that will go a long way to him pulling the trigger.
