Saw this blurb on ESPN. Overall record doesn't tell the whole story, but a lot of UGA fans have gotten a little too comfortable with how good he's been.

quote:

The notion that Georgia head coach Mark Richt has an underachiever label, as one of our headlines read Wednesday, is absurd on its face. Among FBS coaches with 10 years' experience, Richt ranks sixth in winning percentage (140-48, .745). The criteria for Hall of Fame eligibility is .600. That means Georgia could lose its next 45 games -- through the 2019 opener -- and Richt still would be eligible. OK, he has won only two SEC titles in 15 seasons. In eight of those years, the SEC champ also became the national champ. And he was a fluke play away from winning it all in 2012. Underachievement? Please.

Agree, but some people will simply say he hasn't won a title yet so he should be fired.

I was one of those guys a few years ago. Not anymore. It seems like every season the last few years he has done something bigger than the game in my eyes. Whether it is Devon Gales, the Paul Oliver Network, the emotion after the 2013 LSU game and the list goes on.

I believe that Richt is going to be like Bowden when it comes to Natty's.....he will be late bloomer.

I'm not a National Title or bust kind of guy but he's got to start winning SEC titles.

too comfortable with how good he's been?!?!?

more like fan resignation on the part of his more critical fans..Richt is Richt and nothing short of a stoke of luck will change his results..Richt is better than most..

you missed the point of the post. Outside of probably only Saban or Meyer, every single coach in America will need luck to win a natty.

The 9-3 seasons with a shitty Florida bowl game (or worse) have been a little too common. UGA hasn't been to a big boy bowl game since the Sugar against Hawaii. That needs to change very, very soon.

Rant [On] Off

The fans that call for Richt's job are morons....we need some thicker skin as a fan base. What you are seeing is a bunch of whiny arse GA fans that are tired of National Titles being thrown in their face by Bama, LSU, and Aubie fans.

Ya it sucks we haven't won as there is no rebuttal to suck criticisms. So here is a touch of Sandwich mantra..... 'frick Em'....its just a godamn game..its fun to win, but I'm still going to drink, tailgate, watch games, root for the red and black, talk about it with friends, and post on the godamn dawgrant either way.

frick em all, I love UGA and Richt has done a great job here. He is a good man, which in this sport DOES count for something. Why do you guys think our recruiting has been so good? I promise Richt's sell on developing players as Men has swayed more than one recruit. Will we win a national title? Who knows, but if you base your self-worth on how good your football team does then you are fricked already.

Just tell those fans to go frick themselves and move on.

Living in Colorado has given me some perspective. CU has been terrible for so long that fans don't care any more. Granted, part of that is on the fans, themselves, who are just terrible (for all sports), but going to a bowl game has become an indication of success out here. And, they have won a national championship more recently than UGA.

I'm not either, but I feel like now that we have opened up the wallet we'll start seeing some results. You can't underestimate how important support staff is to a program and we've been running on a skeleton crew for years.

This is true but also at a time when the East has been at an all time low.

We haven't won the SEC in ten years, so I get the chatter.

But I am really excited about the new staff, and honestly think they can take us to a new level.

Very excited.

I'm guessing the folks in Knoxville are wishing that one national title had been enough to make them like Fulmer a little more.....

We haven't won it, but we HAVE played for it more recently. In games like that, people have to know both teams got there because they were pretty good and one of them HAS to lose. It's not like we haven't been close at least a couple times since 2005.

And how many did we have between Dooley and Richt? Mmmmmmm hmmmmmmm.......

Of course, the gap between Dooley and Richt is getting close to as long as the gap between Richt's last SEC title and today

Or at least start winning the East. 2 SEC East titles since we last won the SEC.

Also with all the talent UGA has, I think it is fair to say he has underachieved. Especially if you look back the last decade.

I get it, and felt that way myself at times. But things are different. New president, new commitment, and as much energy a program can gin up without changing coaches.

I appreciate how much self-inflicted damage the "Georgia way" has done to our program. How many kids we won't touch. How easily we dismiss kids. Other programs don't battle that stuff. Didn't honey badger fail 17 drug tests at LSU? Think about that when you watch our 2013 backfield starting for AU and Louisville.

Good news- things are changing. Saturday is a program changing game...for better or worse.

McGarity is just what the Doctor ordered, Evans did us all a favor than pink panty sniffing night. The program was going to Hale.

Greg, has strengthened the staff to likely the best UGA's ever had, fixed the SC Program by cleaning house, and we just need to keep right on recruiting like we have been doing, North Carolina and Florida have been kind to us in that category.
