Just look at the reactions here, on social media, and in the local press. Everyone is doom and gloom and feels "bad" for Richt.

I don't feel "bad" for Richt. He made MILLIONS and had a successful career here. He built a good legacy that he can hang his hat on and can get another job easily - just not at a program that wants to strive to be the best of the best.

I for one am happy our program is taking the steps to get us to the top. I was not content with being just "good". I was not content with humiliating losses to teams with equal talent and better coaching. I was not content with yet again the prospect of a meaningless bowl game. I want our program to be "great" not just "good". You have to take risks to get there and finding the right leadership is a big risk. It doesn't seem like the majority of the fan base was ready to take that risk and now that it has happened they aren't embracing the possibility for greatness. IMO our fanbase isn't ready to be great

I'm dying to know what a fanbase "being ready to be great" looks like, and what impact it has on the guys who actually wear helmets and hit people on the field.

Whether our "fanbase is ready to take the next step" is 100% irrelevant.

Threatening to withhold donations.

Being angry with administration for stepping up and taking a risk to make our program great.

Being stuck on the character of Mark Richt as a man vs the results on the field.

Those are things our fanbase is currently doing. Not ready to be great. Not ready to become the best. We are divided and the vocal majority are the ones doing the above.

To be fair...my personal observation is that the majority here were ready for a new coach, but the majority of the softcore UGA fans I know personally were not. Most people I talk to or see on Facebook didn't want to see Richt go.

I think there's an inverse correlation between fan level and desire to keep Richt. The vast majority of fans are not hardcore, and if my theory is true, that means the vast majority don't want him to go.

Sounds like it's just the people you're associated with on social media.

Please find me an article or social media post with some actual traction that shows some optimism. I'll wait

Probably true but success quells discontent. If our next HC, pretty quickly wins the East or heaven forbid a SECC, most of the mourners will shed their black attire.
