Meh, I've never really bought into this lately. If you wanna say circa 2000 then sure, since he kinda of brought golf to being cool and the casual non-golfer to tune in and watch on TV.

But the last 5 or so years I'd disagree. Just because he used to be on top doesn't mean the sport is better with him being present. A major issue I have is that if Tiger is playing, even poorly, it's all the cameras or headlines will talk about. TIGER TIGER TIGER TIGER. Ok great, he tripled last hole, how bout showing, ya know...the leaders? That'd be cool.

Plus tiger is just old news. I'd much rather see more focus on rory, spieth, and the new wave of greats instead of constantly hearing about what tiger is doing.

As an aside..I dislike the whole "the sport is better when [whoever] is good" mindset anyway. Am I to believe that the NBA overall is better if the Cavs/lebron are in the title game every year? Or that CFB is "better" if bama/USC/ND/Texas/Michigan are all in teh top 5? Heck no.

What is a true golf aficionado? Golf isn't better when Tiger plays well. More people watch, lots of whom don't play golf. That doesn't make the sport any better.

Tiger was not/is not any better for golf than any of the other greats. The people who worship him are usually people who don't play or have little knowledge of the game. They're the crowd that drinks way too much at matches, and are the ones who yell"get in the hole" when a player tees off. Tiger is an uber narcissist who has taken a lot from the game and given little back. There is no other golfer alive with more scandal associated with him. His playing career is over as the new generation of golfers can hit the ball just as far, with as much or more accuracy as Tiger, but who don't slam clubs and cuss when they hit an errant shot. Tiger took steroids to get where he got and now his body is wrecked and he's done. And I'm glad to see him go.
