Mostly watch sports and animated kids shows. Will also have PS4 hooked up for games and Blu-ray.

I heard Dora is hot af in 4k!

She's fine as frog hair on SD. I got a feeling on 4k her mustache and hairy arms will show more though.

Spank,
All TV's are the same
Get the biggest screen for less than $1,000 and you are good

This- I bought a 70" Visio from Walmart for $900 and love it. My neighbor bought a 56" curved tv for $2400. I like mine a lot more

They're all the same to what degree? Does the 4k not make that much of a difference? I know it does on display, but I'm also never going to be watching butterflies closeup or random pictures of the vast wilderness...

The size of the TV should be appropriate with your viewing distance. Just get the biggest would be stupid if you are going to sit close.

I have a Vizio and LG and I am happy with both brands. 4K may conquer the world one day, but you have to have a 4K feed for 4K viewing.
For me at this juncture, I would want a smart TV 1080p with a 120Hz refresh rate. The can get a whole lot of TV for your money along those lines.
I don't know about your size constraints, but I have never heard anyone say "Boy, I wish I got a smaller TV".

Get nothing less than 240hz. 4K is nice but not a lot is available in 4K as of now

Never ever 60hz.
Always 120 or more.

4K TV's are nice, but content is slim pickings.
If you go with LED, make sure to get a Full LED Array with Local-Dimming or else you'll have the dread overbleed in dark scenes.
With 1080P being the Gold standard, regardless of room size, generally it is advised to go big.
Also, look at inputs...those effect TV's costs. More inputs, generally, the more expensive.
There is also "smart features"to take into account. Is the TV a smart tv? Will it pick up WIFI? If so, will it have the apps you need?
Is the room you are puttin it in a large room? How are the viewing angles? Some TV's fair better then others. How is the light coming into the room? Bright? Lot of natural light? Again some tv's do better than others.
I use CNET to check for my TV reviews
Just food for thought.

Also, if you are handy, and have the room and your wife won't kill you, a HD projector is the TITS.
Thats what I use:
LINK
The projector + screen can give you 120" of HD real estate for 1/2 the costs of those 80" monsters.
You have to have the right setup, but it kills a tv.
