Yea. I had a friend who went to Mercer and loved it. That said, I'd much rather go to Kenesaw State or Georgia State. Not at all safer but I friggin hate Macon every time I am there.

I would avoid Macon at all costs. I lived there for a few years and many days the whole area smells like a fart due to a paper mill. Mercer is right in the middle of a dangerous high crime area.

Like all towns, there are good and bad areas. Once you live here long enough you know where to avoid. North Macon is Nice, and I am not an idiot, thus I stay on that side...
Assuming your eldest is not dumb either, he/she will easily figure out which areas to avoid.
That being said, I hate Macon too.

Ah shite, just stopped to get gas and to let the wife use the restroom. Stopped at the Raceway on exit 156. Some kids between the ages of 2-6 who were playing behind the store told me I was in the wrong area. Judging by the bars on the windows I agreed so we just filled up. Then drove the wife down the street to McDonald's to use the restroom. Some big ole black lady started screaming at her calling her a racist because she wouldn't let her use her cellphone. This will be the last time I stop anywhere near Macon.
