Ranters,

I'm living that software developer life. Which, currently, consists of my not doing much at all. I've read every article there is about our team, everyone else's team, and then some.

Looking forward to the next two weekends - birthday this Friday @ Terrapin and G-Day the following weekend. What do y'all with desk jobs do to burn time when there's nothing to be done?

Have dual monitors. Actually have a VM with visual studio on the second. Reading SECr on main most of the time, or reddit, or anything really. The problem is I've run out of content.

Assholes in IT keep giving me BS about dual monitors. I have the frickin monitor but "we don't have the cord but no worries, DGD, we'll order one for you."

Crock of shite.

I am IT. Well, I'm a developer, so kind of. I just take spare cords from empty cubes if I need them.

Mindless starring might be your only option. I also work out during lunch to help pass the time

I have a government job, I sit at my desk for 8 hours a day.

When I'm not doing actual work, which means basically almost my whole day, I just get on message boards. My rotation usually looks something like this:

SECR
GSB
OT
M/TV
MSB
OTL

Then start back at the top. Sometimes if I'm super bored I'll check out the help board or other team boards. Throw some facebook in there every so often. But for the most part I just cycle through the above until it's quittin time.

I read a lot of reddit in addition to some of the boards here and some espn blogs...

Luckily, my job is a 4/10. Fridays off is going to be so freaking awesome come football season.

I applied for my young alumni tickets a few days ago. As for the away games, I'm going to try and find a Florida ticket and probably GT through some current Redcoats (they can only apply for away tickets - I know, I did it last year for some friends).

I'd give anything if my job was just 3/13s but I don't think that'd fly.

Try not to burn through all of these boards and Reddit so quickly. Spread out the browsing by taking 5 min walks each hour (this will do WONDERS for your health btw).

If your current poop-cycle involves going at home, CHANGE THAT. There are very few things more satisfying than getting paid to take the kids to the Super Bowl.

It sounds like you are early in your career. Try using some of your downtime to brush up on skills/technologies that can help you in the future. As a fellow C# developer (I'm making assumptions here since you mentioned Visual Studio), I highly recommend you learn the following:
Proper unit testing practices/techniques
Moq (goes with unit testing)
MVC
Linq statements
MSSQL Server (how it works, how to query, write stored procedures, etc)

If you are into web development, check out and learn AngularJS. Having Angular on your resume can/will do wonders in today's market.

Also I have little checkpoints throughout the day, like a 10:30 snack and a 3:30 snack. Smokeless tobacco helps pass the time too.

Yup, we're mostly a microsoft shop. Our legacy apps are built on whatever they're built on (VB6, you name it). All of our new stuff is going to be Javascript (Typescript), HTML5, C#, with some custom controls thrown in, etc, etc. Most of it is web development - for me, at least. I do spend time brushing up on new tech when I feel like it. I have a lot of free time right now.

Stream TV
Shows I recommend:
Banshee
Black Sails
Californication
Dexter
Elementary
Fortitude
Game of Thrones
Hannibal
House of Cards
Mad Men
Marco Polo
Penny Dreadful
Sons of Anarchy
Stalker
Suits
The Fall
The League
The Walking Dead
True Detective
Tyrant
Vikings

And that should keep you entertained for the next two years when you're bored at work.

I'd be wary of straight watching shows at work. I don't have a manager breathing down my neck at all, but our "cubes" are more open in that it's relatively easy to see what coworkers are doing. Think open rows with 2-3 rectangular hubs in a row.

x is desks. Rough sketch, I know.

EDIT: This board kills open spaces. Formatting.

Be sure to put "Get The Picture" blog in your rotation & the "UGA Today" post every day on Bulldog Illustrated is usually solid with articles from around the web. Also checkout "The Dawgbone", they compile a list of UGA news stories every day...

Also if you wanna get "sometimes iffy" recruiting news go to LINK"Field Street Forum" on their front page or their Classic City chat live forum. Also most of the same info is on Bulldog Illustrated's "UGA Football Recruiting" page...

DamnGoodDawg,

Please block the government employees from posting during work hours. Thanks.

As actual producers, we are the ones who pay the salaries of the government workers.....through the money that is stolen from us by taxes. And we shouldn't have watch them get paid OUR money to post on SEC rant all fricking day. Agree?

Holy shite........
