No, more like why do some folks in Chatham County act like it is another planet. When I have driven through there I never had any problems but to hear the locals tell things you think only bad things came from there. Is it some unwritten county border war going on with some crop and bloods type turf feud?

Referred to affectionately as Methingham by most folks I know. I personally don't know much about it but I hear it called that often.

South half is suburbia. Northern half transcends into dirt road south Georgia. Schools are good there especially the south Effingham feeder system.

Home of the Rebels. Tread lightly when you pass through there.

That's mainly because the Sheriff aggressively pursues the "labs" and gets the info out to the media with a public information officer. I suspect that the meth there is no worse than surrounding Bulloch, Bryan, or Screven counties.

Meth capital of Georgia. Some Effingham folks like to say they are from Savannah which ticks off Savannah people. There's not much to Effingham...lots of country folks and also a lot plain white trash. A lot of trucks and 4 wheelers, hunting, fishing, etc.

In the past 10 to 15 years it has become a bedroom community to Savannah. Especially with the explosion of Pooler. Still, Tiger Ridge. And Meth. And I'm from Hinesville.

I own property in SE Bulloch County and went to church in Guyton (Effingham Co.) for a number of years if we're citing credentials to critique the county.

Lived in Effingham my entire life. Good schools, good people. Still have good ole boy politics though. Depending on what part of Effingham you are at, mostly in the southern area of the county are Chatham county transplants although there are still some original hold outs..once you move past Rincon into the northern part, it's mostly country folk. At one time, yes, meth was really heavy here, but the sheriff has took down a lot of the big dealers and cookers so it's really a non issue any more...great place to raise a family, but if your single and looking for stuff to do, it's not the place..

Live in the county. Much better than Chatham with lower tax rate. School system is among the tops in the state and makes Chatham ones look like the crap it is. Nothing else, though. Very low crime rate. Great place to live.

Well, in 1987, they got beat by Evans in the 4AAAA State semi final but Evans was disqualified on Sunday after it was reported to GHSA that they had ineligible players. Effingham Co. was awarded victory by way of forfeiture and played Morrow for the State Title the following week. Morrow won behind the leadership of Jeff Howard (Sean Jones career backup at GT) and fullback Ray Doran (Jacksonville State.) They had the best sophomore receiver in the country with Andre Hastings (UGA.)

******Hastings went off on my McEachern defense in the quarter finals ending our 13-0 run in disgraceful fashion.

That's all I know about Effingham County.

People from effinham, richmond hill, and pooler love to say they're from savannah when out of town. I make it my duty to call them out and make sure they are corrected when trying to cover up where they're actually from.
