and why is it better?

it's better because of Tiger. if it weren't for him, we'd still be watching a bunch of Larry Mizes and Colin Montgomeries...

I don't know how many interviews I've listened to of the top players today credit him with motivating them and making golf the sport it is today. I posted before that he revolutionized the game. Truth.

Mostly because of technological advancements with the golf ball and club and swing training technology.

wew, lad... you just posted how the game has not declined because of one person. now you want to talk about the quality of equipment.

you're reaching germandawg-tier posting right now.

I don't really have a dog in this fight...but do you disagree that technology and equipment has improved the quality of play?

Ask her why she says "lad" and "m8" now too. Is she Australian suddenly?

nope, don't disagree...let's talk ball core and dimple improvements or how irons have gotten better over the last seven years.

but this wasn't where the sperglord began his argument.

This is incredibly accurate. Trackman is the reason DJ is #1 in the world. He realized he needed to work on his wedge game, and spent an entire offseason focusing on that.

I don't know if you've ever hit the M2 irons, but those things go for freaking miles. I hit that 4 iron 20 yards further on average than I hit my own.

I remember when I finally got fitted for a pair of clubs instead of using old hand-me-downs. If I pick up the old stuff now, it feels like I'm swinging a shovel or something.

I watched a friend - who is a pretty good golfer but not particularly long - get worked by the dealer at the Nike tent on demo day at the local range. By the time he was dialed in with driver and shaft he added 50 yds to his average with perfect spin, height, etc. The shaft was a fortune though and the whole set up was well over $450 so he couldn't make himself pull the trigger. That shits been in the back of his mind ever since

Your a tall guy right? I' was fitted a few years back got a set of Mizuno MX25s and they're +2's. Longest clubs I've ever seen - and they're like swinging a telephone pole. If I pick up a standard club I feel like I need to bend over like I'm playing putt putt with one of those plastic clubs.

I think there's really something to that guy who has his clubs all the same length. I'm good up through the 7 but my 6 and 5 are like swinging a 2 iron.

Still - I bet I'm a full head taller than half the guys on tour and they can hit their sand wedges further than I hit my 7 iron.

DJ is number 1 because he's been riding the white pony and Paulina!

I'm not an avid golf-watcher. Heck I'm probably not even what you'd call a casual golf-watcher. But when Tiger was playing it almost made broadcasts unwatchable because ALL they'd ever show or talk about is Tiger. tiger tiger tiger. Hey I get that the guys' good and all, but I mean there's a bunch of other guys playing too. And this was even AFTER he started fading when others had passed him by. That was still all anyone woudl ever talk about, even if the guy was like 10 shots back!

True statement. Davis Love (just randomly picking a name here) could shoot 58 and ESPN wouldn't cover it until they told us what time Tiger took a shite that morning. It was insufferable and I watched less golf because of it.

Just left the course. The renovated entrance on the north end looks good. Out of towners are going to be disappointed at the azaleas being spent.
