Gents...looking to retire from USAF and settle in GA so kids can go to UGA and it might be quick. What is a good area/industry to look into as a 2d career in GA? What's going on over there? Anyone know any good headhunters?

I know Amazon likes to hire vets but I don't think they have any spots in Ga.

Gulfstream is based out of Savannah. They pay very well and would be interested in someone with a USAF background. If you look into it and are still interested, I could put you in touch with a headhunter.

What's your background and specialty?

Completely depends on what you want to do or specialty I would guess. Plenty of decent places to retire however. I know the Valdosta area has alot of Air Force retirees.

So what exactly do you do for the USAF?

Sorry for delay. I'm a 20+ year O-6 Aircraft Maintenance Officer. Trouble is I've been asked to command a unit in Guam and family doesn't want to go so I'm weighing options. Could be forced out by Apr if I decline. Timing is such I'd have to take off my eagles and retire as an O-5 so I'm motivated to go where the $$ is to make up losing that O-6 retirement.

I've got time with B-52s (conventional and nuke), F-15Es (hunting terrorists) and HH-60 Pavehawk helos. Have commanded large units and been responsible for $Bs in assets/budgets and developing airmen both enlisted and officer and building/executing flying schedules and managing aircraft fleet health.

Don't move to Atlanta, it sucks. Athens is a great town to raise a family but crime is unusually high for a town that size. People complain about Macon but I've always liked it.
Have you considered Charleston, SC? Boeing has a plant there and would likely welcome you with open arms and $$
Plus it's the best city in the US! Although I'm trying to get my niece into UGA it's $42k a year out of state. Great incentive to start early for scholarships.
Good luck and thanks for your service to our country.

Ideally Athens is where we'd like to go but just getting in-state for tuition purposes is the goal. I'll have a freshman in Fall 2016 and another freshman in Fall 2017. Doh!!
Boeing and the Dreamliner in Charleston would be cool but Boeing would have to really bring the cash. Kids are slaying school at honors level--so far. So scholly $$ might happen but no guarantee. Got to prep them for SATs.

Do they want to go to Georgia?
Posted on 12/24/13 at 2:05 pm to Damn Good Dawg
Yep! Especially my middle kid--wants to be a Red Coat trumpet and youngest wants to be a Gym Dog really bad. Oldest is more practical and would go anywhere depending on where we are but if we're in GA--then UGA it is!

Sounds like 3 damn fine children. I wish yall luck, they maintain HOPE then it'll be an enormous burden off your family. Made papa DGD's day. May be worth living in GA for a few years over the great, amazing, beautiful city of Charleston for that alone.
What about Lockheed-Martin?
