5 baseball players suspended at Richmond for Fantasy Football participation
quote:

“You are not eligible to compete if you knowingly participate in any sports wagering activity that involves intercollegiate, amateur or professional athletics, through a bookmaker, a parlay card or any other method employed by organized gambling. Examples of sports wagering include, but are not limited to, the use of a bookmaker or parlay card; Internet sports wagering; auctions in which bids are placed on teams, individuals or contests; and pools or fantasy leagues in which an entry fee is required.”

Don't even care about the video, which delves into paying players, but unless the entry fee and/or the possible winnings was exorbitant, I think this rule is pure shite and should be reevaluated.

Well, good to know I couldn't have played college sports even if I had any athletic skill.

This one? LINK

quote:

In 2010, the University of Missouri at St. Louis was placed on two-year probation after the head coach of its men's golf team played in several fantasy leagues with entry fees as high as $1,300. The coach eventually purchased and operated his own fantasy football operation, recruiting a volunteer coach and three of his players to act as commissioners, all while still a golf coach at the institution. Secondary NCAA violations have involved athletic department spokespeople, assistant coaches, and facility managers paying between $30 and $100 to join fantasy leagues.

Seems like a bunch of boosters could start a high stakes fantasy league, invite Chubb, then all tank their picks so Chubb would win.

It would be a lot easier to just give him a stack of cash.

This is just under the umbrella of gambling. They don't want players fixing games, so they just forbid all sports-related gambling.

I mean.... maybe? Could easily put a reasonable cap on entry fees/winnings though and account for this. It's much more what Crow just stated... blanket/umbrella coverage over all gambling... regardless of whether they could have any control over the outcome. Hell, I don't believe it's against the rules for them to go to a casino and gamble, and in that scenario a group of boosters could start a poker tournament and lose all the money to Chubb as well... I believe in Mississippi where more of the riverboat gambling operations are, this is one of the ways that was discussed of getting funds to recruits... through chips.

VictoryLand was giving Auburn players cash debit cards by rigging their slot machines to reward them. The cards were from Bobby Lauders bank.
