I'm sure you're trying to help, but this is patently false.

We were blessed to be able to receive that kind of world class healthcare. We all talk about how good Emory is around here and they are don't get me wrong
Emory is a great teaching school and the hospitals in the area are some of the finest in the world but they simply do not have the reputation for cancer treatment that The Cleveland Clinic and MD Anderson have...
Both have in resident treatment programs that are not cheap but within he budget of most people with health insurance and some savings. Not that you are going to come out clean on the other side but it is such that you can be treated and costs are taken care of afterwards....often for many years afterwards but it is better than simply being told you have to have a couple of hundred thousand up front....

Like another poster here said you have got to find that Dr. that gives you that confidence
This and a positive attitude...people survive cancer in Hospitals all over the nation...it doesn't have to be Md Anderson...but you have to have confidence in your health care professionals and in turn you have to have a positive...even an a-hole...attitude about beating cancer...and the people supporting the patient...the spouse, the kids, the parents....need to be positive also...and need to be prepared to take some abuse...the patient is pissed off and scared and sick...not at their best in other words....and they do not need all of their families drama interfering with their focus to beat cancer at any and all costs.
All of us like to think we would do whatever it takes for a loved one to survive cancer but many times we let our own shite creep in on the one thing we can do and that is be there and be supportive....thats all you can do and that is all they need...

Disagree a little here. You do have to be supportive but much more importantly you HAVE to be an advocate for your loved one and that means doing evrrything in your power to know he or she is getting the best care and getting the best advice possible and demanding different opinions, treatments and certain care providers
are assigned to your loved one.Sorry, the squeeky wheel does get the oil.You just can't stand around the think care providers have your best interest in mind.
Don't get me started on Emory...would not recommemd cancer treatment at (Winship) to my worst enemy. We are still in litigation with them.

1999, what led to litigation?

2 botched minor sugeries amongst other things.
I'm not talking the entire hospital just the Winship Institute.
Friend had heart surgery there and says nothing but great things about their cardiology dept.

Your are absolutely 100% correct!!! I agree...ask questions and if you don't like or understand the answer keep asking...educate yourself....there is no place where the axiom is more true than in healthcare....speak up and advocate for your loved one....

Thank all of you again.
I'm going to go to the dr with Mom and Dad later this week - what kind of questions should I ask him?
