Mock Draft

If the Braves draft Kyle Lewis I would love it. I know he is a limited fielder but brings serious pop in his bat.

Opinions on which directions you think the Braves should go. Would drafting a future Right Fielder for a big bat be a good investment or should the Braves go for a guy like Moniak who probably wouldn't play for a few years or Groome the best prep arm. I think the Braves should go for more guys who will be ready to play closer to 2017 than 2020 IMO even if they are limited in growth potential because we need more MLB ready players IMO.

Top 100 draft eligible prospects

The Braves have picks

3, 40, 44, 76 80 and they have 12 mil to spend leaving them the opportunity to grab a hard sign at 40 and 44 and take a chance on a good player that may slip because of the hard sign issue. With 4 picks in the Top 80 they have a chance to do well.

Draft Order

With todays trade, the Braves now have 5 of the TOP 80 picks in the draft.

Trade

Lewis is who I want the Braves to get. My nephew pitches for Mercer so I saw several games this year. Lewis is legit. He swings so easy and the ball just launches off his bat effortlessly. With major league swing/hit coaching he's going to be a 30 hr/season and .700+ OPS guy eventually.

Unfortunately I have a suspicion that Cincy will pick him and we will have to settle for Corey Ray, which is not really settling at all. That kid is going to be a stud too. And maybe even a better fielder, plus he's a lefty with power which is a nice bonus.

I can't see us going pitcher at #3. Maybe at #40. We have 4 of the top 100 picks. And we are lacking power bats bad. I suspect 3 of our 4 picks will be high power hitters more than anything.

Selfishly, kind of glad to not see Stephen Wrenn listed in the top 100. Really want to see him come back to UGA for a strong senior year and get drafted in the first three rounds.

I would like them to go after a corner outfielder with some power potential.

However, if Groome is there at 3, I think you might have to take him. I've seen him throw live and he is unbelievable. You can never have enough big arms in the league. You can always take him and leverage another young arm as a trade piece to get a plus hitter I'd think.

What about Senzel over Ray? I think either of the 3 big college bats would be a win so we are in a good position at 3 IMO.

I can't see us going pitcher at 3 either however it seems like every trade and even last years draft we went pitcher so our org seems to prioritize pitchers. We took Allard last year and it wouldn't surprise me to see them go Groome. We did trade for Swanson so it seems like they are aware we need some bats.

If someone plays NCAA baseball, are they required to stay for three years like football? And if so, why are some kids allowed to leave after playing one year of NCAA basketball and go pro?

Every major league has its own rules (NFL requires you to be a certain age or at least have 3 years of college, basketball at least 1 year college, etc). MLB you can either go straight out of high school or you can go to college but if you go to college you either have to stay 3 years or be 21 to enter the draft. Baseball has arguably the best draft situation for college players of any league as they can enter the draft but not lose college eligibility

Not if you go the JC route.I believe that's what Bryce Harper did

I thought for some reason Harper played at a JuCo during what would have been his senior year of high school. Maybe that's wrong

He did, but you are eligible for the draft after one year of JUCO. Brady Aiken went JUCO after high school, and was drafted last year. Phil Beckford was a first round pick after high school, and had a good freshman year at Fullerton. He transferred to a JUCO, and was eligible last year just two years out.

When it comes to the Braves and this draft, Im 75% certain that we will go Riley Pint at #3. Groome is sliding down draft boards because of a mediocre senior season, and his velocity has been down the past couple of weeks. There are two other guys that I could see us take, and thats Kyle Lewis from Mercer, and the high schooler Moniak. Its all probably going to depend on the philosophy the front office wants. If they want 3 first round talents, then we will spend less on our first pick(Lewis/Moniak), and use the extra money for our other two high picks, but if we want to go with the best talent then we will go Pint.

Article on Braves 2016 To-do-list

Pretty good article on the team and things that need to be done.

Also, Hector Olivera ......has to be the worst trade ever right?

Trade update

The Braves have added the 76th pick in the draft and LHP Matusz for Brandon Barker and Trevor Belicik. This trade was strictly to land the pick.
