Credit score around 650...have had issues in the past...decisions made because of pussy for the most part, but have been on the straight and narrow for 5+ years. Just got a quote from farm bureau this morning for around 900.00 a year, which is more in line with what the seller is paying.

That sounds a lot better. And yes, the credit thing is big, too. I'm sure that was my issue. I lost my job unexpectedly in 2011, a month before welcoming our second child into the world. That situation ultimately put my otherwise perfect credit (just under 800 score) in the shitter. It's much better now and score fluctuates between high 600s and low 700s, but it still has a major impact on stuff like this.

Credit Karma.com is a good, free place to keep an eye on your credit score. Mine is at 819 and 821. (It gives you two of the three scores, and it really is free) When you have credit problems it takes a little while to get your score back up, but it can be done. You probably already know this, but your credit score affects the interest rates you pay for insurance, cars, credit cards and some other things.

I'm glad to hear you got a good quote! It pays to ask questions and look around!

Thanks rig...Thats interesting. The place is only worth about 125k, im paying 100k and the lowest quote ive been given is 2400.00 per year. I feel like i am being quoted to insure a gasoline soaked barrel of tissue paper. The place is in good shape, recently renovated and repaired...and shares a driveway with a half million dollar home...makes me wonder if they are quoting the wrong property.

Entirely too high. I have a modest home that was bought for $125,000 and my insurance is only $680 or so a year.

Veterens are eligible to use USAA as well.
