Roquan is playing out of his fricking mind so far this season. My man is everywhere on the field and punishes opponents. Reminds me very much of Ogletree, who's patented body slam tackles were a thing of beauty. I think Ogletree was a bit quicker but Roquan hits harder.

Roquan has a sure ticket to the NFL, right?

I would take Roquan over Ogletree any day of the week. Ogletree did a lot of "catching" the runner. Roquan gets good leverage and has better technique at the college level vs Ogletree. The tackle on 4th down stop vs Samford was a thing of beauty. I fully expect Roquan will leave early but hope we are lucky to get another year out of him.

Roquan would never pull a Double Suflex on a Georgia Tech player the way Ogletree did.

That makes Ogletree better.

Man, some his tackles would just make you get out of your seat, pound your chest, and yell. This skinny looking dude just treating his opponents like rag dolls. A DGD. I'm taking Smith, though...he was decent last season but he's really a true difference-maker this season. Loving this season's defense.

To me Roquan is a better linebacker at this point maybe because he has always been one. Tree spent high school and first year plus at georgia learning safety. So point being I always viewed tree as a high ceiling guy but here he seemed to rely mostly on his athleticism and instincts. Roquan is as reliable as the day is long. Game on the line. 1 v 1 in open field. I
trust Roquan

Roquan has more discipline than Ogletree. His play recognition is unbelievable

Roquan is awesome but Ogletree is a physical specimen out of this world. I'll never forget him going one on one vs Eddie Lacy at the goal line, driving him backwards, and ripping the ball out. No one stood Lacy up like that in college. Lacy had a full head of steam headed to the end zone and it looked like he ran into the side of a building. That collison was probably heard outside of the Dome.

Roquan's speed and recognition are pretty incredible. NFL talent for sure. One of the best LBs to play for UGA in a long time.

Ogletree was/is a physical freak and a damn good player, but I dont know if Ive ever seen anyone diagnose a play as quick as Roquan and get to the hole.

Roquan will be the first LB off the board come April.

Yeah my bama buddy was asking after the game who we had at LB, because of this one play I believe. He was amazed that Lacy got stood up on the play.

Both love the big stage. I think we'll see a big day from Smith on Sat.

I honestly don't think it's close.

He'd fit in perfect with the Falcons and their scheme but I'm afraid will be long gone when they pick.

Great post.
I remember having to watch Tree's learning curve out there. But his athleticism and the experienced he gained made him special.

Idk...there's just something a little extra about tree. Roquan is incredibly quick and smart at knowing where a play is going as someone else mentioned and is great at getting to the ball. I mean I don't have anything negative to say about him. But tree was just more violent, I think he had more command of the field if that makes sense.

And just looks at stats, tree averaged 11 tackles per game his junior year, Roquan is currently averaging 6. I mean hell that's nearly double the amount of tackles per game! Tree is also on pace to triple the amount of TFL of roquan.

Again, I love both and you absolutely can't go wrong with either, but I'd probably take tree if forced to choose.

Easy on the tackle stats. They can be a little deceiving
That 2012 defense gave up massive amounts of rushing yards and 1st downs and will probably log many more plays and minutes than this defense.

When ogletree blocked that kick and ran it back into the end zone and we went up by 11 and we all thought "oh my God this is happening"...

That was awesome.

Stats can say whatever you want them to, I was just posting the black and white numbers. And I did averages rather than totals since Tree only played 10 games that year.

If Roquan continues to develop like he has, he will be the best we have ever had at that spot.
