Not counting interim guys like Ed Orgeron, who’ll pilot the ship at LSU for the rest of this season, whoever follows Miles full time will be the 22nd SEC head coach introduced since Saban landed in Tuscaloosa.

Now every other current SEC member has changed coaches at least once since Alabama hired Saban in 2007, though Texas A&M did it while still in the Big 12.

Here’s the sobering and staggering part. New doesn’t always equal better. Of all the SEC coaching changes in the Saban era, only two have landed men who went on to win a conference championship.

Both happened at Auburn.

The Tigers won the SEC and BCS titles two years after Gene Chizik replaced Tommy Tuberville, and they won the SEC title and played for the BCS championship the year after Gus Malzahn followed Chizik.

That’s it. That’s the sum total of SEC coaching changes in the Saban era that have led to a conference championship. Two for 21. You can’t fire string-pulling boosters, but that .095 batting average makes you wonder why more ADs and school presidents don’t get whacked.

Everybody is going to look bad when compared to Saban. Auburn was lucky enough to catch lightening in a bottle with Cam Newton and Nick Marshall, with a combination of Malzahn at OC and HC. Other than that, it has been the Saban show.

I honestly don't know how many AD have been fired since Saban came in. Interesting question, though.

To be fair, a lot of those 21 have been at places that are unlikely to win an SEC championship in the foreseeable future.

By my count, there have been 2 new coaches at AU, 1 at UGA, 3 at UT, 1 at LSU, and 2 at UF. You could maybe throw in 1 at OM. Sumlin has been at A&M since they joined the conference.

Saban went to Bama for a reason. He knew they had the "machine" in place to help assure top recruiting classes. It was a perfect fit for his philosophy. The only university that can come close is LSU and ATM in the SEC. This is not something Kirbs can just plug and play at UGA. He can certainly improve the recruiting and the types of players. HE will still need to have better coaching.

I think that stands to reason. However, when players from the previous regime are used to "earning" playing time due to seniority and now they have to compete with freshmen, that most certainly plays into their mindset. Then there are those who probably - and maybe rightly so - felt that the firing of CMR was wrong and maybe they are rebelling in a certain way. Another equation - as someone said - is the fact of 3 staff changes in three years on both sides kind of plays into it.

CKS may very well have to "coach better" as you put it, but he walked into along with trying to implement an outright culture change leads to exactly where we are now. And I won't go into the lack of everything across the board. It all plays into it.

Ya... No... You can earn playing time by being a leader with experince, but you do not earn starting jobs that way. What you are speaking of is not real and made up on the Internet. The scores of underclassmen and transfers who started the last 13 years prove this....

Dude, UGA is just as good if not better than those two schools. We just need a good coach to close the borders and coach up the talent. Have some damn UGA pride. It's one of the best colleges in the nation!

Understand what I said... They have the "resources" for recruiting... It has nothing to do with the school or the program. Our "resources" are divided and are pretty concentrated.

Porch swings and lemonade. Resting on dead dried up privet laurel.
We may not win them all but we are still better than you.
