I ate at Fox Bros for lunch today. Yep, still the king of brisket.

That's all I get at BBQ joints. Still beats any other I've had in Georgia. It's a shame they get no love here just because they also have great sides.

That said, I would take Carolina BBQ over KC and Texas BBQ in a heartbeat, all three of which I've had, and had often. I don't think I've ever had Memphis BBQ, so the jury's out on that one.

There ain't a decent BBQ joint in Texas....right off the bat they haven't been doing swine in Texas but about 20 years ....prior to that it was brisket and only brisket....and it is ALL the same......charcoal on the outside, raw on the inside and no seasoning....then they all have the audacity to smother it with some variation of ketchup they call sauce and...in ultimate of ironies....they serve pinto beans with it.....not baked but plain old run of the mill unseasoned pinto beans......it is astonishingly bad all over the entire state. They also know nothing at all about cooking a steak in Texas....

BBQ is pulled or chopped butt and vinegar....with either Brunswick stew with no Lima beans or hash......anything other than that s just smoked meat, it ain't BBQ......and none compares to a small batch, 100 pounds or less, of smoked butts done properly in the backyard......there will be some of best BBQ to be had on the planet at Grant Park this weekend......just old Atlantans doing what our Ancestors have done for centuries.....but you can't buy it....you have to befriend someone or be kin....cause there are really three things that money cat buy....real love, home grown tomatoes and decent BBQ pork pig......

I also like Fred's in Lithia Springs and I like the Yellow Jacket hot dogs there. Evan's is the best of the bunch though. I grew up on Melear's in Union City. I miss it like the desert misses the rain....... Col. Poole's in Ellijay is the worst BBQ I've ever had this side of Sonny's.

Melearns in UC was the best pork, sauce and stew ever made on the planet, Hands dwon.......

They still have the hollow jacket hot dogs in Lithia Springs? Thise things are solid.....

Yep Fred's on Thornton Rd. Right next to the Harley dealership.

Melear's is like the long lost love you long for. I've had a ton of BBQ and I've found a lot I've really liked. But nothing quite like Melears. I'm sure folks are getting sick of me talking about it.

One more thing....

Check out this place on Thornton (Heading towards Chattahoochee River) as well. Not so much for the BBQ (Its OK, not wonderful) but for the biscuits in the morning. Their streak, egg, and cheese biscuit is blissful.

Of course German has some weird ideas on what BBQ is and isn't. Just like beer.

Man I am sitting here in New Mexico thinking about hopping in the truck and driving to Atlanta....that picture is more exciting to an old fat man than a picture of a bikini clad beauty!!!

Those hot dogs are the bomb...there ain't none nowhere any better....Skins, Nuway...none...and don't even start with New York and Chicago....that yellow jacket is what a dog is supposed to be! I just hate that they have been the yellow jacket since the 30'S LOL.

Fred's used to be the Wagon Wheel...and it used to be at the end of Thornton Road where the 78 extension is now....supposedly the guy bought the original yellow jacket recipe from the original place next to Grant field......they are the best hot dog ever made!

Not me...I agree...Melears was the best BBQ in the south bar none....the one in Union City, not the other one...

As far as Steak Bisucits go you are obviously in the Lithia Springs / Austell area at least some of the time...is Martin's still open? Their steak biscuits and chicken sandwiches were legendary...better than chick fila....

Brother....how long have you been away from Georgia?

Martin's has chains all over West Ga. now. Probably 12 stores. D-ville has two locations. Villa Rica, Carrollton, Cartersville, and Dallas I think all have at least one.

And yes the biscuits are amazing! Do you know the history behind the place? I don't but was wondering if you did. I'm guessing you must have ate at the original place?

Edited to add this.

Too damn long LOL....I thought I remembered seeing one in Villa Rica 3 years ago when I was driving to Athen.s but I wasn't certain. Martins has always had a better chicken sandwich than Chick Fila in my opinion....but their biscuits are the stuff of dreams!

I did eat at the original.....lots!!! It was my grandfather go-to place after working around the car lot on Saturday mornings! It was a drive in in Austell where Thornton Road used to dead end at Bankhead highway. It was kind of tucked away and hard to find but they did a booming business. I don't remember them selling biscuits until Hardees started doing it in the late 70's or early 80's...but when they did it took off!

Well the next time you are eastbound and down hop off 20 either in Villa Rica or Douglasville and get you a Martin's biscuit. Just keep in mind they close early after lunch. I think 2 PM. Hop in the truck.....you know you want to.

This dude knows the deal....

I dated old man Martin's daughter back in 79-80 when the only stores he had was the drive in on Bankhead in Austell, the store on Gordon Rd. in front of Big Star and the store in Powder Springs...

Shoulda hung in there...
